  • The problem with normal fñash drives is longevity. The OS will probably wear it out pretty quickly. As an inexpensive and/or disposable solution I guess it's fine, but it's not reliable.

  • You kind of can? If you want to have an OS that you will actually use (instead of just a backup to fix your actual os) on a thumb drive, buy a usb-c m.2 enclosure, put the cheapest ssd that meets your needs in there and just install windows there.

  • It sucks that you have to maintain it though. If you don't update from time to time, you'll have to update windows, steam, the game and probably thr gpu drivers as well.

I sincerely hope that Linux becomes at least mainstream enough to not have compatibility issues. It's still not something I would recommend to people that don't know how (or don't want) to troubleshoot issues. If installed linux on my mom's laptop she'd be constantly reaching out to figure out how to do/solve stuff.

  • Jay you mean? I replied to a comment, not the video, and the comment only said "backup os".

Still, I admittedly did not watch the video because I've stopped watching that guy years ago. He's one of the least knowledgeable "techtubers" I know. The only thing he was good at was custom watercooling stuff, but I don't know if he still does that stuff.

Lastly, while it does suck to not be able to play a game due to anticheat, the best way to solve that issue is to not play those games. The devs will propmtly find a way to make an anticheat that works on linux too if their playerbase demands it.

  • You can just have a thumbdrive with another linux distro and live boot with that. There really isn't a need to have another os permanently installed.

  • How far do you even have to be to use a 65" screen? Doesn't seem practical at all for desktop use.

  • Did you actually read my comment? That's an issue casual users have. If you want to see deleted comments, there's a way to do that.

The only thing that actually hurts reddit is if people stop using it an generating new content.

  • *they're

  • The sad part of it is that they (reddit) can still access that deleleted information and sell it for AI training. Even as a "power" user you can use websites that "undelete" that content. The only ones truly affected by this are people randomly browsing reddit.

  • Read it then. It's literally a single script with 140 lines.

  • Not really, no. If you're learning something not only that you like, but that it's also useful and that you will you use many times in the future, I wouldn't consider that to be part of the "cost".

  • Learning a new and useful skill is not "wasting" time at all.

  • Hence, why it's not "wasted" time.

  • Or, even better, repurpose an old computer. Just stuff it with drives and install truenas.

  • Yeah and you might end up getting your console banned by nintendo if the seller of the used cartridge ripped it.

You assumed what my argument was. You wrre mistaken.

  • It kind of is, though. The cost of the system on its own is not the cost of the platform. Buyung the same games on a switch+paying for online mp is substantially more expensive than having a steam deck and using steam.

  • It also has fewer (and more expensive) games and is quite a bit more restrictive.

  • I'd have to read it more carefully but it does seem that the article you shared is right. I think I should research the topic a lot more to have a better understanding of when it's fair or not to let a trans person compete. Perhaps it's not unfair at all and I've been falsely led to believe that it is by the media I've watched.

And even if you could prove there was some advantage in swimming events, why would you immediately go to the bigoted solution of banning people from competing?

To rephrase your question: "why would you ban someone from competing if they have an unfair advantage?". Do I really need to answer that? It's not about being bigoted or not, it's about being fair.

But you have never once in your entire life seen a Republican politician propose using handicaps rather than bigoted bans. Because it’s not about fairness, it’s about bigotry.

Don't make this about US politics. I'm not or want to be a US citizen. My comments are not due to a US Republican/Democratic/Whatever bias. If there's a bias, it's my own. Don't complain about people putting others in boxes and then turn around and do the exact same thing.

  • Well then you'd have to allow for added criteria that this fictional transgender person do tests to corroborate that they don't have an unfair advantage over their peers.

I have literally nothing against trans people but there have been at least one case where a trans person had an exaggerated unfair advantage. This case of one "Lia Thomas", who went from 462 in male rankings to 1 in female rankings. So yeah, I do believe that these extra controls should be performed.
