I always figured there are people similar to me on the other side of the dating aisle but I never expected to read a post that could mostly have feasibly been written by me, just with the gender swapped. I don't do the AI S/O stuff, but its only really because I set up a "not allowed" barrier in my brain for it. I feel the same way you do about feeling guilt from potentially stealing someone from the dating pool or stealing a better future from the hypothetical person I'd then be with.
It's always easier to comment on others situations than to act on my own, so I'll go ahead and with you luck with your journey. It may not always feel like it, but you have so much time still in the world to experience and learn so many cool things and, if you wish it, share them with someone else special to you. Yup, I still find things that I have incredibly thick masks on or discover that things I hated are a lot more tolerable now that I'm medicated (driving, mainly). When I first started meds, I couldn't stop talking about them, I was probably quite annoying haha. My whole world changed, to others I didn't seem all that different but to me it was a paradigm shift.
I'm playing without having done any rerolling. I've won a run with only a couple horses, but I think the challenge is fun and if I really want a certain support, I can just borrow it. I really don't think going in with a "win all the time" mindset is good for this game, maybe just do a daily/weekly run and progress over time as you get a better gene pool to select from. No real reason to sink a bunch of time in if you dont want to or can't.
I really don't understand why Intel's response to finally having a worthy competitor after market domination is just to absolutely crumble and hinder any potential return to form. It seems they had a good thing for a couple years with their last CEO, but they got rid of them right when the fruits of that labor started to show (chip work is usually a multi year long process, so results aren't regularly seen right away, is my understanding).
OK but how do we know their response to the phenomenon in this article is experienced by the fish in a way akin to pain and not akin to fear or anxiety? (Or all of the above). Its just weird for the article to say a fish is for sure feeling pain, and not provide actual evidence for that.
I'm not saying the experience isn't awful for it, so please dont turn the conversation that way.

I bought a used, old HP laptop with a fairly capable AMD apu for some power and cost efficient gaming. Problem is that even though modern games can theoretically run on it at playable frame rates at very low settings, HP does not allow you to change how much RAM is dedicated to the GPU in BIOS. They have a setting, but its locked behind a BIOS only they have access to. Its quite frustrating that I have capable hardware but cannot use it to its full extent because of this software lockout. Knowing that they lock their consumer BIOS' down like this is absolutely keeping me from buying HP basically ever again, because I really want to make the most of my hardware and keep it all alive as long as possible to reduce waste, and they won't let me.
I've been seeing waaaay too much unwarranted vitriol and anger in comments lately, for things that really aren't that big a deal (like Linux vs windows) and I find it disappointing. As a community we should want Lemmy to grow, and yes that does mean we will get more "normie" posts, but imo that's good and if someone doesn't like it they can use more niche community spaces, which there will be more of with a larger userbase.
You can always just not switch it into desktop mode, but hey you know what you want out of a console more than I do, it just seems odd to pick based between steamdeck and switch for that reason. Usually, I would expect people to make that choice based on the game library they want access to.
Well, using OBS to put together the different aspects of video and audio that you want, then outputting a virtual camera source for another app to pick up seems like it could work for you if you spend the time setting it up.... Except for anyone that doesn't have the internet to see a video stream - that seems tough to work with.
There is a downside, and that's why Switch 1 games have an option to become digital cartridges and it is not forced.
The downside resides in if a single account has multiple switches. With the current system, you have a primary switch on your account, and this switch can play any digital title whenever it wants. Any secondary switches on that account need to connect to the internet anytime they want to play a title. This leads to a flow where you may have your primary switch be a portable one (no need for internet to boot) and a secondary switch to be a dedicated at-home or docked device. Either switch can play any game you own without really planning much of anything. This will not be possible with the new system, where you will need to move digital licenses between consoles.
Additionally, you could have a friends account on your switch and you could borrow games that way, or they could sign in and play their games on your console while visiting you without having planned it before. Now, they will have to bring their own switch or otherwise preplan wanting to play a game on another console, and move that digital cartridge.
While I do think the new system is overall better, I also think its just wrong to claim there are no downsides when compared to the current system.
