  • WW3 has been underway for about a decade now, it’s just being fought through cyberwarfare, propaganda, and proxy wars.

  • Biden should’ve joined the primary in 2016. Obama put his thumb on the scale for Hillary that year. As much as I like Obama, the dude has been meddling in the democratic primary process too much.

  • Also, he doesn’t want Trump to ban EVs, or otherwise put up roadblocks to their adoption.

    1. Obama backed Hillary very forcefully in 2016 and discouraged all other Democrats from running. This largely worked. Only Bernie was willing to join the race. Biden was sidelined, even though he very much wanted to run in 2016 and was still young enough to do it. Unfortunately, this move meant the Democrats didn’t nominate a candidate that could’ve beat Trump because the options were limited and Obama had his thumb on the scale for Hillary.
    2. In 2020, Bernie had widespread appeal and was winning primaries and gaining momentum. Obama phoned up several non-progressives and had them all drop out and give their delegates to Biden, who at this point was showing his age and obviously would’ve been too old for a second term.
    3. In 2024, Biden’s age starts to show, but democrats ignore it. Instead, subvert the primary process and push in a “Party Boss Approved” candidate. Obama gives her his rubber stamp. Democrats again lose to Donald Trump.
  • Some states still require you to file even if you don’t live there, but have ties, and may tax your income.

  • Not if you live in a state with state and local income tax. They capped SALT deductions, so you’re basically paying tax on taxed income.

  • Idk why people say “pay a premium”. MacBook Air is like $1000 bucks. Other laptops are also in this range.

Also, you’re never going to spend a second worrying about making the thing work or fixing an error. Even Windows requires fixing problems and installing drivers sometimes. I guess it depends on how you value your time. I’ve spent hours on linux and windows troubleshooting. I’ve never spent a second on macOS.

  • I’d like to also blame Obama. No, seriously. That dude has rigged the democratic nominating process for the last three election cycles and it has led us here.

  • Sorry for the bad news. Had a family member diagnosed with stomach cancer recently. It puts a shadow over things.

  • Trump was convicted of 34 felonies. The judge is waiting til after the election to sentence him. I’m guessing he’ll do prison if Trump doesn’t win, some other punishment if he does.

  • Why is Ukraine against?

  • If he loses, he’s going to prison.

  • You got in at a bad time and probably picked some subpar investments. You likely bought some big tech stocks at the worst possible time, and many of them never recovered because they were way over valued to begin with.

Stick with total market or sp500 fund like VTI or VOO. You’d be up right now if you had.

Also, it sounds like you invested once and then never bought more? The whole point is that you’re buying more every paycheck. You’d be way up if you’d kept investing through 2022 when prices were low.

Retirement accounts with the right funds are supposed to be set it and forget it. Make the automatic contribution every paycheck and look at it maybe once or twice a year. Otherwise, let it be.

  • The incentives aren’t there for Apple. It makes money selling you a product that you trust. If that were violated, it’s a threat to their business. It’s Google, Meta, and Microsoft that make their money collecting your data to target you with ads.

  • Your actions will produce more harm than good if Trump gets elected. What a privileged life you must live to be able to make a stand on principle — even though that will produce a worse outcome for the people you supposedly care about. The additional blood that will be shed is very much on your hands.

You don’t get to just walk away from the situation absolved of guilt because of your so called principles.

  • Most of Lemmy thinks you should vote against Kamala on principle against genocide and if Trump gets elected and makes the genocide far worse than it would’ve been under Kamala that that is a preferred outcome and somehow they won’t have blood on their hands.

  • I always wondered this too. It was a good idea 15 years ago. But, they don’t offer enough to justify the price. Literally everyone offers cloud storage now and a million other features too.

  • Do China next

  • How is input lag for the MacBook? Friend of mine said it was bad enough that he couldn’t seriously use it that way. Not sure if others feel that way too. That would be my biggest use case for it…. Use it for work and having a massive screen.
