  • I'm glad that she's good at her job and does the killing. It's nice to have people with the right job for their skills. When you're good at piloting killing machines, then you do what you're good at.

  • Yeah, about that.

My province just had a very dry summer with very low water levels. Some wells dried up.

At some point farmers were wondering how they would be watering their crops if it got any worse.

Or what about flash flooding, either on flat ground, or in mountain towns? Or wild fires?

There's certainly places safer than others, but a lot more people are going to be affected than just coastal inhabitants.

  • I'm undecided with modern GUI because most modern software is just a web page now. And it will offer you a choice between boring light mode and boring dark mode.

I miss the days of GTK2 with hundreds of themes. It was one of the main reason I switched to Linux; the customization. I don't know how many hours I must have spent on gnome-look.org. Now I don't even bother to try new themes and just use Fluent-Dark. My desktop is boring and looks like everyone else that has a dark mode. I really really miss GTK2 and all my favourite themes I can't use anymore. I tried making my own and played around with Oomox but it's not the same.

But one thing that I do prefer to be GUI now is IRC. Now that there are web clients (sigh) that can display images and videos directly in the channels, chatting in text mode only is kind of annoying with all the links we are sharing.

  • I was wondering about the instances when she borrowed a runabout and when the terrorism happened but someone's gonna have to remind me.

Once she brought back a few Bajorans that were still prisoners since the war, including Li Nalas.

Another time she kidnapped a single Barojan scientist to force him find a cure against a terrorist bioweapon.

    What am I missing?

  • I tell myself a similar thing about soldiers that blow up civilian fishing boats.

  • No, but since you're mentioning it I might try. I've been so disappointed by the franchise that I didn't bother looking into SNW, but just having someone that seems to be on the same page suggest it makes me want to at least give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestion, and the detailed rant!

  • Hehe, that reminds me how it feels when you don't like something the rest of society really really likes. I'm Canadian, don't like hockey, but when I stop to pay attention to things around me, there's hockey promotions on bags of chips, on soda bottles and cans, on cereal boxes... there's even hockey promotion on toilet paper packaging. So I'm sitting on the toilet, looking at the pack of toilet paper, and can read about some contest I could win in relation to hockey.

  • I live alone and sometimes stuff like this isn't worth it. Go out and get a salad that's already made. It will be less wasteful this way.

I only bother with stuff I can freeze. Like, I buy carrots and celery, blanch them, freeze them, and use them when needed in soups or rice.

  • It's mostly a construction thing where I live. Lots of construction workers here seem to have taken the habit of parking their pickup truck anywhere they want, like in pedestrian crossings and bike lanes, and jam a high visibility vest in their window to show they work in construction.

I don't know if it's working and they avoid getting a ticket this way, but if they keep doing it I'm guessing it's because there's not much consequences.

  • I'm on the same boat. Apart from Lower Decks, I can't watch the new shows. I keep hoping a new show might fix it, and be for me, but the longer it goes, the less I'm interested in Star Trek.

Lately I've been thinking about unsubscribing from all the Star Trek communities, as all the discussions and hype about the new shows is making me think I'm no longer a trekkie. I loved TNG, DS9, VOY and tolerated ENT, but the new shows are clearly not made for me.

  • I'm dumb. I wanted to try with French and was like nouuuus?! But then I realized that we have oui. And it can even be used cromulently in this exact situation. Ouiiii!

  • Best is suggestive. It's a weird movie but I wish there was more of David Cronenberg's eXistenZ. Maybe a sequel since the movie ended on that possibility. But it's probably going to end up repetitive, if not recursive.

And its an idea that has been explored in different other movies and series anyway. So as much as I liked the style of that movie, upon reflection, maybe it should just stay where it was left.
