  • What is Linux?

  • Plus the $67 balance prevents the first steps of getting therapy or visiting the doctor or even affording insurance.

  • Well shoot. It’s my lucky day. And cross platform even! Thanks!

  • TrueCrypt, my beloved. Such an amazing set of features and super easy to use. I so wish there was a modern open-source equivalent with the same intuitive approach. I especially liked the ability to do fancy stuff like disguising data with a false password or using any file as the key.

  • I didn’t get mine until 24. Lived in a city with public transport from 18-26.

I was late to riding a bike, too, though. I didn’t pick that up until 18.

  • Going to use this as an excuse going forward when someone catches me biting the toilet.

meditating and carrying out ritual actions such as clearing one's throat before entering or even biting the latrine to transfer spiritual forces back to the god.

  • This is saying that their online MS account has somehow lost the database entry for Snipping Tool (something that should just be integrated into the base OS) being associated with their account, meaning that even though it appears installed and I’m pretty sure based on what I’m seeing the binaries are ready and waiting. The online store prevents it from launching. Definitely exclusive to MicroSlop.

  • Imagine being one of the developers who put their time and effort into the base OS tools back in the day (almost all of which we had as far back as 7) only to watch Windows 11 undo all of it.

  • POWERTHIRST reference in the wild? I’m shocked.

  • 23 days?! I don’t even want to think about the logistics of this.

  • That’s a journey the individual must take on their own. That’s the challenge of addiction. The reason people come back FB isn’t their friends and family. It’s the incredible force of dark patterns that convince them they are missing out on the world without it.

Since joining Lemmy, I haven’t felt the same pull to browse for hours on end. I usually get about 10-15 minutes in, get bored, and go do something else. Even Reddit would keep me hooked for hours.

With an algorithm purpose-built to drip-feed an endless cycle of dopamine and shock, it takes a few days or even weeks to get used to the slower cycle of information. Our brains want more information all the time, and they use this to their advantage.

On the note of trying to convince someone anyway, focus on the fact that the Fediverse does none of this and that there is no profit incentive behind the platform, meaning they have no incentive to make you feel worse in exchange for more ads.

For a direct, but still early Fediverse replacement, maybe consider Friendica.

  • You’re right, but not billions. We could get away with a fraction of our population employed. The flawed logic comes in when people seem to believe that if you weren’t required to have a job, people would just sit around and waste away.

  • The less of these the better. They’re just there to help shitty third parties make passive income.

  • No such thing as lazy when we have more than enough for everyone. Until we’re at resource capacity, there’s no reason for every person to be employed other than profit.

  • This is a legitimate issue with modern cars. All the systems tie in and communicate with each other and many won’t run unless the signals all check out. Many will go crazy with dashboard lights and limp mode without lots of custom work on the ECU.

  • I had most of my machines on Linux except my main gaming rig.

I switched it to Bazzite and it worked okay but I was running into unexplainable performance issues (40 fps max in games where I was getting 100+).

I tried making some posts on it, but never got anywhere. Eventually switched to EndeavourOS and it’s been working like a charm since day 1 for the past few months.

Now pretty much all my games run great and some even better than Windows. So nice not having any more M$ interruptions throughout the day and having total control over the look and feel.
