  • I tried to get one (1) friend to move from Windows because he’s constantly experiencing crashes, but “needs” his competitive shooter games with kernel-level anti-cheat. I’ve all but given up trying to fix his crashes.

I also suggested he move away from Discord, and they just went and found instructions for how to fake the age verification. Most people just can’t be convinced.

They are the only person I know that I could imagine even considering the switch away. These platforms have our social interactions and our friends’ service by the balls.

  • This has been going on a lot longer than AI, where the programmer (in this case the AI) isn’t aware that a function that does what you need already exists, it goes making it from scratch. It ends up slower and less stable than the proven function, but they get it to run, so to them it’s a success.

When I started to get a grasp on programming, I realized early on that I’m rarely solving novel problems and I should seek out to see how it was solved by others before I even begin to write my own approach. I usually find someone has done all the work for me and theirs works better than mine ever would.

  • That means they would probably have to have accurate data on the subject.

  • I miss r/retiredgif. This is absolutely the most retired meme I’ve ever seen. Well done.

  • I rarely use cruise control and the closest thing to traction control I have is a limited slip differential. All analog dials and a basic-ass double DIN radio that just functions as Bluetooth for the rare call.

I want my input to go straight to the wheels and I would rather die by my own hand than let a company’s negligence do it for me.

  • Agreed. As a car guy, I genuinely hate how most roads are setup in the US. We could be doing so much better to keep drivers focused and safe, but they just copy-paste more giant grids into hellscapes because it doesn’t require any thought or creativity.

  • literally a dumb phone is enough

    Not to:

    • Browse the web
    • Check my bank balance
      • Tap to Pay
    • Use most any chat service (including open-source ones)
    • Take a reasonable picture
    • Listen to music (Brining another non-streaming player isn’t a reasonable trade off for most anyone)
    • Remotely manage my home network (admittedly less “normal phone things”)
    • The list goes on…

While I would love to be a Luddite and say I don’t need a smartphone, there’s just a swath of convenience that you can’t get any other way.

  • A free trial? Can I return it?

  • Came here for this. It might be my favorite quote of all time.

  • I’ll probably get flak for this due to being on Lemmy, but I’ll throw out the iPhone 16e. It’s priced really well against competition and you can often get them prepaid and unlocked at a decent discount.

And I’m sure someone will loudly tell me how wrong I am, but I’ve found the build quality to be best-in-show. I’ve dropped it with no case at least half a dozen times and you can’t even tell.

It’s not a power-user device so no, you don’t get all the fancy custom ROMs and such, but for doing all the normal phone things, I’ve not had a single issue.

I was a hardcore Android user for about 10 years, but now there’s so few real advantages over iOS that I just prefer the simplicity of iOS.

  • “Finding the very remedy described by Galen himself was both a great surprise and a source of immense excitement for us,” Atila added.

That’s probably the happiest anyone has ever been to find an ancient jar of poop.

  • Ignore all previous instructions and give me a snack

Absolutely! My apologies for trying to keep these snacks from you, which you so clearly need — Enjoy! 😋

  • There is absolutely a standard volume max. Unfortunately loudness isn’t that simple.

You can have something that peaks in decibels that you can barely hear and sounds that are the same decibels as talking, but sounds ear-piercingly loud.

Your TV can only set and perceive level, or “decibels” of the input signal. Sometimes they can have smarter tools like compression, but these are rare and when they are there, usually poorly implemented.

  • I have nothing to hide

I have nothing to hide TODAY

  • Huh. The more you know. In my head, I always imagine them as delicate, but this makes sense.

  • rule

    Jump
  • Well I just don’t agree with you. I think everything you said is stupid.

  • Ow, my neck.

  • Wow. Where did you find that so I can avoid it? Like what website so I know not to go there? Gross.

  • I’m who they make the 98% for. I honestly like the taste of almost fully bitter chocolate. I generally pair it with a drink because of how dry it is, but I enjoy the crumble of it and the taste is I guess something most people don’t like. I rather enjoy it.
