  • Sorry if I come off like a butthole but I'm both curious yet dubious of the idea. I feel like people probably have thought about it but they probably ran into the same problems you'll run into.

You didn't quite answer my question. Where are you getting revenue? Eg. Subscription, one-time fees for X, grants, investments, etc?

Duallingo started like a non-profit but even their revenue with its massive userbase couldn't cover their expenses so they had to compromise hard to keep the lights on. The same happened to Coffee Meets Bagel. Hinge started with the same premise of "this app is meant to be deleted" but they also had to compromise and eventually sold to Match Group.

Also, I feel like gay men are a unique demographic that has higher that average engagement so Grindr is probably in a uniquely advantaged position to resist enshitification.

I guess I'm just saying it's probably in practice a cost center like city infrastructure or schools or research, so it might only work without heavy compromises if it's also funded by taxes.

  • But even non-profits need to pay for operating costs like salary and cloud fees. Where would you get the funding for that?

  • Omg too close, lol.

  • His face really exemplifies my impression of the entire Boomer generation.

They're obsessed with chasing aesthetics of wealth (tanning their skin) but are also too arrogant to reconsider their values in light of all the new knowledge we've discovered (using sunscreen). So they just end up with avoidable consequences (extra wrinkly), pissed off, and don't even know why or how so they just take their angry out on everyone else.

  • Boo, but jihad just means holy war like Allah means God. I literally learned the word jihad from playing FF8. When do we take borrowed words literally versus phonetically?

  • Would it be in poor taste to call these people jihadist?

  • Oh I don't doubt Alex Jones is still at it. I don't follow closely at all to the conservative-sphere but they all absolutely incite stochastic terrorism.

And they all are quick to discard previous and current beliefs as if they never happened. It's kind of crazy how efficient they all are at converging on the same new belief when the previous one becomes too indefensible.

  • Pm'ed you the site. I don't want to draw more attention to it. I suspect the posting is highly curated anyway. It's more of a bubble than r/conservative.

  • I sometimes visit the successor site of the_donald to see them erase their memories in real-time. They were 1000% sure it was a Dem black person yesterday. They even had insider info from police connections. Today it's crickets and false flag.

(There's always, always, without fail, accusations of false flags. From CIA, from FBI, from antifa, from George Soros, from Bill Gates. How do you even talk to people like this?)

  • Yeah, I know, and it's sad (but not surprising) that it's still true. I should read up about the larger context of that quote.

I personally believe with zero background knowledge that we're just not evolved enough to have empathy beyond our physical sphere of influence. Like as an aggregate, unless we personal interact with another human, we seem to have no problem vilifying them. We seem to even be able to hate ppl who look exactly like us too, lol. Civil wars are so ridiculously common in history.

It's like we tend to hate humans who look nothing like us or exactly like us, lol. Everything between that spectrum is acceptable.

  • The sad part is that even if the lives of these MAGAs get worse - worse than the lives of the immigrants they look down upon in their home country, they would likely still be racist.

There are pockets in rural America, an obscenely rich country, that are borderline third world country conditions, and they still vote Republican with a sense of superiority and extreme ignorance of their relative standard of living compared to rest of the world.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of them were okay with trading electricity and sewage systems (return to 1700s) for racial and religious homogeny.

  • If these were answers for a high school test it would get a D or something for correctness. I can't believe an adult, a journalist no less, could be so off.

  • This is completely unrelated but I cannot believe Calandra is a real world name.

The designers of the video game Path of Exile should've called their super rare item "Kalandra's Barometer" instead of "Kalandra's Mirror".

  • Damn, I'm not drug naive, but habitual use of ketamine and psilocybin and MDMA sounds dangerous. Long-term use MDMA alone is dangerous.

  • If you don't mind sharing, what is the exact combination of drugs that leads to psychosis like you described, besides ketamine ofc?

  • Yeah it's pretty well researched. It's kind of jarring viewing these videos now because they describe a time when fascists weren't nearly so overt.

  • Ah, saviorism. Yeah that's definitely what you're describing.

I guess what the video is describing is yeah tangential and/or like a superset. Groups high on the power structure use those who're lower as proxies for their vying for power/resources/etc.
