The government is not there to protect you. The justice system is not there to protect you. Police are not there to protect you. They are there to protect money and keep it out of your hands.
Don't believe me? Canada bread used price fixing to screw Canadians out of ~$1.50 per loaf for 16 years! The fine was 50million, that works out to less than $6k per day that the scheme was going on. For a company with 5k employees that is nothing.
There are a few good defcon talks where it has been shown that the engine control and body control can be accessed and modified via the "infotainment" system (the one I saw specifically was Jeeps).
Every manager and supervisor drives one of these giant fucking abominations. The guys who actually work have vans, they hold more stuff and use less gas.
If Chinese manufactures can exceed Canadian standards, provide spare parts for a minimum of 10 years from the date of manufacture, provide a minimum of 10 years of software support/updates, AND allow all software to be audited for both safe function and security. Then sure. Bring on the cheap EVs.
(But not even our current domestically produced vehicles meet those requirements)

All levels of Canadian government exist to monetize Canada.
Canada was a colony started to exploit the resources of north america to the benefit of the rich and that has never changed. Everything we produce is for sale to the highest bidder.
Because politicians can't directly steal 29 gigabucks without consequence. By cranking that money into a crooked industry they can manipulate investments and receive an assload of bribes without scrutiny.
are we going to expect hospitals to become profit centres
Welcome to Ontario! Hospitals ARE profit centers, if they don't make enough money the board of directors have to make "changes." With the cost of treatments being set by OHIP that means the only changes available are cuts in service or staff.
Canada Post and healthcare should be treated like a military. It is overhead, the cost of being a modern country, you can try to get the most bang for your buck but the goal is to provide the absolute best service not to turn a profit.
Not really an option. Thanks to the insane cost of living and the federal government allowing Amazon to undercut Canadian business a lot of people can literally not afford to buy from anywhere else.
This shit needs to be addressed at the federal level.
Every Canadian has a phone that records everything they do and reports it back to Google, Apple, and Amazon. No one cares that they are being spied on as long as they get their infinite scroll and self-driving car.
Management. Every middle management twit I meet thinks that LLMs are thinking, reasoning, minds that can answer every question. They are all frothing at the idea that they can replace employees with an AI that never takes time off or talks back.
They only kill people I don't care about in mines and factories, so it's cool!
