I am in the US and its gotten very political but as pretty much a peon do I just tune the stuff out thinking its fear mongering? Or should I closely pay attention to it?

lol how? Anti-immigration is not inherently racism. All countries have some sort of immigration control.
Edit forget it, i don’t want to want to seem oblivious to the obvious human rights issues here. People deserve legal recourse to immigration, enough said.

The anti-DEI motivation seems thoughtless at first, but then when you look at it really it seems the politicians don’t like the CRT and Neo-Marxist ideology associated with DEI. Makes sense, America has never been about Marxism or Communism.

I mean, people should have some resource for legal immigration, but a nation is allowed sovereign control over their immigration policies.

So, the whole reaction on the left seems a tad alarmist maybe, but as others have said keep paying attn but don’t let it consume your life or senses.

It seems a little unnecessary to spin words to be correct, you can just say you read it wrong or don’t respond 🤷‍♀️

Besides that, it’s okay. I know my anti-Marxist pov will always attract downvotes. I want to challenge the premise that a Marxist world is socially just or morally or ethically superior. I don’t want to troll or cause grief.

Meanwhile there’s nothing anti- imperialist about something like Marxism or Stalinism, the only difference is you’re ruled either by a single tyrant or a committee of tyrants.

Edit I’ll just say this though, the sad thing to me is that so much of LGBT rights is wrapped up in postmodern ideology, but LGBT rights speak to fundamental aspects of being a person. LGBT rights don’t need postmodern ideology to validate those rights.

Can I ask a real question here? We know from being here on Lemmy that some people have a real hard-on for Marxism/Stalinism/Leninism. Why do these people think their pov is morally or ethically superior?

The whole DEI stuff seems a bit like a Trojan horse to sneak in Marxist propaganda. Forcing people to accept immigrants with different cultural pov in a democracy is dangerous because you can end up relinquishing your country to another country’s agenda.

Should people be more humane and considerate? Yes, fucking definitely. Should there be more regulations against some damaging effects of capitalism? Certainly.

Does that mean people want to give up the means of production? Absolutely not. Does that mean people want to live in a China-like situation where you cannot own the land your property is on? No.

Countries should be free to control immigration. That’s what sovereignty is. But the truth is simply this, all countries need immigrants, the natural competition created via the current state of capitalism demands this.

It’s a little silly equating one (albeit learned and genius) guy’s opinion as something which will work across the board for everyone, everywhere. There’s nothing democratic about socialism, just as there’s nothing democratic about the unregulated and oligarchic capitalism we have today.

At a very simple and human level, there are a number of explanations for why some elites and intellectuals gravitate towards socialism, this has been discussed to death in many places, but here’s an accessible article.

What I find interesting from the above article is that China currently does very efficient market socialism, which tbh if the U.S. was to implement would make the U.S. a more powerful economic force to contend with. The caveat will be that U.S. citizens will no longer have the right to means to production, or land ownership. Such systems have no respect for individual liberties. The relative rate of poverty and inequality in the U.S. does not merit this kind of shift versus what it sacrifices.

The only countries which have issues with capitalism are the economic loser countries. Here’s the problem though, there are so many examples of countries which could have been economic losers, but instead turned it around for them because those countries had good sense and controlled their levels of corruption. The only people in countries who have problems with capitalism are the economic losers. The best way to correct those woes is through taxation and social programs, not a forced or authoritarian formula of break-shit-and-take-shit.

I am not seeking validation from any far leftists here, I only make these posts because it’s important for left leaning folks to know where their opinions suck. The far left wants to run the world like a charity project. No one asks to be born, so no one owes anyone anything. People should be humane because those are useful values for societal organization. But some people can weaponize kindness and use it against those who possess it, like those who do so in abusive relationships. There’s near overlap between countries receiving foreign aid and being high in corruption. Should we be taxing the wealthy higher to address a lot of these problems and also threats to democracy? Yes, people on the right and left admit this. But I can’t even take some of the leftist arguments seriously because they lack any understanding of reality, and repeat only average college student arguments. I am bored with this.

I don’t know what you think “the center” is, it doesn’t mean being undecided or voting against human rights. The Left is not a religion, and anything which demands “with us or against us” membership is not any better than fascism.
