  • The complexities of how business owners had to deal with Germany under the war is no small thing. I cannot help but roll my eyes when people talk about ww2 with confident ignorance and black and white thinking. It was a very complex time and people like Schindler is a great example of how complex it was for many.

I for one think it was smart that some used their status within the regime to help the oppressed. Whether they were actively part of the nazi party or just trapped providing for the Germans to survive, I still think those who managed to risk everything to do some good for people who weren't even seen as people, were brilliant.

In the same vein, the resistance wasn't purely good and righteous. Many of them became violent criminals who continued looking for excuses to murder people even after the war ended. It was like they were addicted to the hate and the chase. Like for them it wasn't even about justice. Just an excuse to harm and feel justified.

I am no scholar when it comes to ww2 and frankly the subject has always bored me because that was the only subject I learned about in history class, but one thing I appreciate to have learned from all those boring lessons is that people are complex and no one is fully good or fully evil.

People used to understand the nuances of a person. Nowadays, especially online, too many people seem to be completely obsessed with purity testing and the standards are inhuman. Not even Jesus would be able to pass the bar for what terminally online losers think other people should do to be considered a good person.

  • People like that scare me because to me they are no differnet than the Maga people they hate so much same black and white thinking, made up scenarios, misinformation and a total rejection of the real world and dehumanization of others. It is so fucked up.

  • History refers to them as Germans. I'm not playing that game with you. My country share a border with Germany. We know the history very well an we know the hard work the Germans put in after the war was over, as well as the hard work many of them put in to oppose the system while they were under Hitler.

It is the same with everyday Russians who have no control over what their leader is doing to their neighbors.

And now, Americans, stuck in a system that has been stolen by a skinwalker.

I don't want people to starve and go homeless just because some terminally online, holier than thou people online think that opposing a regime is as easy as to just quit your job.

  • Some people on this site are so divorced from reality it's scary. Nuance? Never heard of her.

And I'm sure that anyone potentially replying to my comment will spew some bs like "if you work for a 'nazi' in any way, you're a nazi" and to those people I say that it is clear you have lived your entire life without having had to deal with real life dilemmas and compromises. Must be nice to feel entitled to dictate who gets to provide for their family and who have to quit or they are deemed a nazi by you. What a humble, sane and intelligent mindset to have.

Demanding people in an unstable country to quit their job is the extremist leftie version of "just stop being poor".

Some people don't have the luxury to quit, especially if they have a home and a family to feed and bills to pay, which is the case for most people.

  • I still cannot get over the fact that Tolkien based Middle Earth and several characters in Lord of the Rings on friggin Djursland in Denmark. I live an hour away from the real life Helms Deep, Isengard and so on. There's even a local myth in the area that directly inspired the characters of Aragorn and Eowyn who were split onto two characters. The original myth was about a chief's daughter who had to reclaim her dead father's legendary sword and thereby set him free from the curse that kept him and his men trapped as ghosts. I forget if their Graves were on Helm Island or if it was somewhere else. It's just really cool and super random. Apparently there are official Tolkien tours. I don't have to go to New Zealand to experience middle earth xD I have the original lame version at home.

  • Not that it matters but I would take India or Bharat over Hindustan any day. I get that it'd be in line with naming conventions in the area, but it just sounds so silly. XD

  • In Denmark we refer to the UK as England. If it's more official we call them Storbritannien but no one calls them that in everyday speech. It's just England.

  • Clearly he meant Tyskland!

  • Same with Denmark = Danmark

I know. It's a shocking difference. We call you guys Holland for some reason, though and every non-european I've ever met keeps thinking we are the same country. I was asked to say something in Dutch once and just looked blankly at the person.

  • I get the intent, but I still think it's funny that you placed eco fascist underneath the group the native Americans.

Btw, I still don't think you know what indigenous means.

  • I'm not sure this person is aware what indigenous means. Unless, of course this meme is a 100% America-centric meme and largely ignores the entire rest of the world.

Also pretty funny that "eco fascism" is placed underneath what I assume are native Americans.

  • Oh for sure. I do have to admit, though, that I very much enjoy when Americans use umlauts in inappropriate ways. And as a Dane I have feel special joy when they replace their o's with ø in an attempt to make words look hardcore, cool and Nordic.

That, my friend, is endlessly entertaining to me and will never not be funny.

I remember that one album by Twenty One Pilots where literally every o was replaced with and ø on the cover and I was friggin crying and hyperventilating the first time I saw it. I haven't listened to any of the songs. They may go really hard and be masterpieces, but to me I can never take that album seriously. They really thought that ø is just a cooler looking o and not its own letter with a very distinct sound that, in the context of English would make every word sound like it's being spoken by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  • Ahem, det er faktisk Bornholnn om jeg må be'.

  • Kan godt lide at det eneste bynavn, der er stavet rigtigt er Tórshavn.

  • Holy shit, stakkels Nuuk! Det må fanme være koldt og ensomt.

  • Oh yeah? This symbol = ß that looks deceptively like a mangled B is the double S in German.

Don't get me started on their states. My favourite is Mecklenburg-Vorpommern because it sounds like a curse word you'd yell out in pain after stepping on a Lego.

  • I have another mindblowing fact for you: in Germany, the v is an f and the w is a v.

  • Tak for link!

  • I was unbelievably furious yesterday, and in some ways I still am, but I just want you to know that I have no ill will or hatred toward all the people of America who never wanted any of this and are essentially stuck in a hostage situation in their own country.

For all of you guys' sake I do hope that America does eventually land on its feet, but I also hope that it will never recover to what it once was because America needs a serious wake up call and must start treating other nations and peoples with some respect instead of acting like they own everything and that all of us must bow to their will and sensibilities.

I would like to see, in my lifetime, Americans be prioritized by their government. Some kind of welfare system in place so that Healthcare and education is a right and not a privilege that can bankrupt a normal everyday American. The wealth distribution is comically unfair and I have called America a social third world country for decades. I would like to see a shift in priorities and a geopolitical humbling.

The latter is what I was referring to in my initial, very pissed off comment. And I mean it. I will look forward to seeing this country deal with the consequences of having trump in office. Allyship will not go back to normal where America calls all the shots. Hopefully your future leaders will put laws in place that will prevent something like this from happening again and they will take human rights and freedom more seriously moving forward. No more ICE raids. Fucking ridiculous.

All these changes, I believe will happen, some super slowly and over many many years so we won't immediately feel the changes, but if America wants to remain a country with good values, this must happen. Their friendship with Europe will not go back to what it was and if it were up to me, we would distance ourselves significantly from America and hit them where it hurts, by simply stop buying American weapons and tech etc. and stop supply chains to both. My country apparently supplies America with components to build attack planes. Maybe we should find other buyers in the future. Maybe other European countries should do the same. I trust that our leaders are making plans that are being set in motion and the changses have already begun even if the effects aren't as immediate as one may like.

On a micro scale, I avoid using American products as much as possible. It is impossible in my job to avoid it because most of our gear and software is American, so I'm kinda fucked there, but in private I have taken several steps to avoid buying American anything. All the way down to something as silly as raisins.

There needs to be a cultural shift in America where making profit isn't the holy grail, but investment in people becomes a virtue.

That is what I want for America. And my pettiest side wants for those who voted for him to carry the shame of contributing to all this idiotic shit. I know some of them will always believe this was right, but a good number of his voters have since woken up to what they voted for and my petty ass want them to feel the shame for a very long time.

I hope there is a brighter future for you after all this stupidity is over. You deserve better.
