  • I have never heard anyone claim returning something is "extreme" before. It's so mild it should be one of the first options you consider, especially when you ordered online and didn't get the chance to see the item before purchase. You shouldn't get saddled with shit just because there's some "feature" you hate which you weren't aware of when you bought it. For that reason where I am you'd have a legal right to return almost any order within 14 days of receipt no questions asked, or longer if there's a defect.

  • You are very bad at trolling. Try reading the first sentence of the source instead of skipping to a related etymology. Use of a word in a 1610 text is concrete evidence of use of that word existing in 1610, regardless of any other claims that text makes; if it read "Martians ate my baby" that would be concrete evidence of the word "Martians" being used but not of Martians existing.

  • I posted three sources and you evidently did not read any of them. The latest of the three sources is the exact same variant as modern use and dated 1500s, which is slightly more than the 100 years ago you're claiming.

When I said it was a biblical term I was being entirely literal. King James translation circa 1610, Acts 11:26:

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

  • I'm not sure where you're getting that information, Christian is not a new word. It's literally biblical. You could make an argument that it's a 1500s word but that's a little spurious considering alternative forms such as Cristien and Cristen appear far earlier.

Edit: Christian, "1520s", etymonline; Cristien, "c1300", Middle English Compendium; Christen, "pre-1150", OED (potentially referencing modern definition of baptising rather than religious follower, paywalled so can't double check that one)

  • Sounds like you've tried some different formatted partitions for the os, have you done the same for the games too? When I switched from Windows to dual-boot Linux I kept my existing NTFS partition for games, those games shows up as installed in Steam but wouldn't launch properly.

If that doesn't help, add this to your game's launch options to get a log which should include an error:

    PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

Log should be in your home directory.

  • In that case it's the app handling code blocks poorly, you're complaining to the wrong person.

    Is this better?

  • It's alternative medicine (ie not medicine) and pseudoscience (ie not science). Chiropractic injury rate may seem lower in some cases for two reasons: significantly more people without injuries visit chiropractors and some forms of real medicine do carry real risks, eg real surgery carries obvious risks.

Your primary argument for chiropractors is that some real therapists use some of the same techniques, so why not go for real medicine instead?

  • Sounds like the Milgram experiment. The gist is that participants were willing to administer ever-increasing shocks to another person up to lethal levels because an authority figure told them to.

  • For many people, yes, there is no other choice. Was that meant to be a joke?

  • I'm a short man (5'6")

Worldwide average height for men is around 5'7", you're average. I'm guessing you just live in a region that skews taller.

  • Not sure what that has to do with anything? The article says there's spaces for blue badge holders, that's the UK's scheme for parking spaces for people with mobility issues.

  • Still a nazi. You can say you hate tall people and want them all to be shot, that won't stop you being tall. Same thing.

  • It's called nazism. People who defend nazis are almost certainly nazis themselves. People who claim the nazi salute was used by Romans are wrong or lying, and also probably nazis; the earliest known record of the salute in a Roman context was created a millennium after the end of the Roman empire.

Edit: It's probably worth noting that Hitler was likely a fan of the Roman empire. Nazi Germany was known as the "third reich" where the first was the the Holy Roman Empire and the second was the German Empire. It's likely they appropriated the gesture thinking it was a legitimate Roman salute.

  • Some local residents have not been onboard with the lack of car spaces at the new station.

If you need a car to reach the station it's questionable to claim you're local.

  • It's closer to planet 1.4 million if you include the rest of the dwarf parts and minor planets under the same logic. It gets a little hard to remember all the names at that point though.

  • 0 to 1 is monochromacy, a single visual channel, eg only rods and no cones. I thought that was fairly clear. Full colour vision would be closer to 0,0,0 to 1,1,1 (plus low-light rods). Null would be no visual channels at all, ie completely blind. I didn't miss the point of your example, it's just a very bad analogy.

Here's a quick article I found which demonstrates how individual channels are monochromatic and you only get full colour by combining channels, digital image formats were designed for human eyes so this is much more analogous to human vision. With no channels you get nothing at all.
