Long time linux user and tinkerer. Currently working as a devops engineer. Very positive to the idea of decentralized internet platforms. :)

  • Why are these companies the worst? It's a honest question since I actually don't know much about them.

  • It's ad blocking and entire operating systems, or computers configured in any way they don't like.

If this goes through, they can force you to install any plugins they wish, or disable any plugins they wish. Or make sure you don't run Linux and only Windows or Mac. They can force you to have your camera on. They can do anything since they make the rules.

No innovation will take place. Competing browsers or software will not be allowed or manipulated into marketed as "unsafe".

This is a takeover of the open web stack as we know it.

  • And we saw this was going to happen at least 5 years ago. But since the majority don't care, we get what we deserve I guess.

Let's just hope this doesn't go through.

  • If beginner, use PopOS.

    If Linux nerd, use Arch.

That's my guide. I don't like any other distros. :)

  • Now we are talking :)

  • Should say by who. :)

  • I remember when the snap version of calculator took like 12 seconds to launch and Canonical were like "yeah but what's the big deal?".

It basically turns your super fast Linux into feeling like a 10 year old windows machine.

I hear they have improved performance now though but there are many other reasons why snap suck.

  • It's not about that... I don't know why it's so hard to understand the psychology here. They feel strongly that something is wrong and want to fight it. That's it.

Again, not supporting it at all but you should at least understand that they are not so different from us. They just grew up around hate for these things and continue to feel hate for these things.

If they would have grown up in a different environment, I don't think they would even care about any of this.

  • Intel dropped the ball completely, and it will take years to catch up, if they ever do again. Could be a very long time.

If you believe they will become market leader again, buy stocks now. They are dirt cheap and could double or triple the money in maybe 3 to 5 years if they somehow come back from this.

  • Because it's actually simple to understand. There are different forms of complexity and one of the worst is when someone else has built something and you are trying to figure out how it works. Like Fedora, Ubuntu or whatever.

With arch you install the system yourself so you know what you have on it. Therefore problem solving is a lot easier. You put data into the config files so you know what you did.

People run their arch systems for years and never reinstalling. Sure, you will have some bugs but the arch wiki is amazing to help you fix them.

  • I don't have backups. :/

And I will regret it some day.

I use github for code so that's backed up though.

  • We just need a easy to use, beautiful mobile client and so many people will switch over to it.
