I'm lucky to be in a position where I can basically buy whatever I want for groceries, but I've definitely made choices regarding what I will actually buy. which is:
nothing that is obviously stupidly overpriced
nothing american unless there is no alternative and I can't just not buy the item (which I usually can do)
buy cheaper items instead of the more expensive stuff in the first place, i.e. dry beans and not canned
simply consume less and don't buy stock food, I want to lose some weight anyways
I can't believe that uncle Ben's or Campbell's soup is actually selling for $4 per serving. I'm sure as fucking not buying it at those prices. although I did see at the dollar store today that uncle Ben's was half the price it is in the grocery store
grocery store prices actually make me feel okay about spending $12 on two delicious loaves of bread at Cobb's now and then
that's what I thought at first, but there is actually a way that it makes sense
you have hot water and cold water with a certain amount of pressure behind them feeding your apmt. if you turn the shower to full hot, the valve is still going to mix it with cold water. however if you take the cold water out at the sink prior to the shower feed, it's not going to be replaced by more cold water if the system doesn't have enough supply to keep up with it. so your shower water is being mixed with less cold water than before, resulting in a hotter mixed stream from the shower head
and like maybe there's other things going on and it's not the same in every situation and all that, but you can test this yourself and get this result, so..
yep, it's absolutely infuriating that they do that shit. you do some work around to make shit actually function, and then they just go change it on you without actually adding the functionality you needed
one of the vocally pro-nazi people I still have on Facebook did a paper at university on "Elon Musk: a case for transformational leadership" and has that posted on his company website. he also has clippy as his fb pp, and his profile tag line or whatever has "I am devoted to the well being of the people"
it's an interesting mix of beliefs
mind you this guy is Canadian. he's gradually been becoming more and more right-wing because he has been radicalized by his view of the left through mainstream media. however when it became clear that he was pro-Nazi was when he posted about how the people who were calling Nazis Nazis have blood on their hand for Good's murder and that it was entirely clear it was justified self-defense
we were building a snow fort and I was punching a hole into a snow block
next thing I know, a teacher is telling me I have to go inside because I punched a kid in the face
I had to sit in detention, as like a first grader, and have the older kids guide me through it. I was so confused. pretty sure I was crying. no adult helped me, that I can recall.
either this kid hated me and made some shit up, or they were so fucking stupid and enough of a little bitch that they walked right behind and stuck their face where I was repeatedly punching the snow and got hurt without me feeling the impact.
and on that day, my mistrust of authority was born. no amount of insistence would sway them. I must be punished.
one thing that I'm proud of my team at work for is just defaulting to using 24hr time when adding timestamps to filenames. I require datestamps, but there are no rules on timestamps if there are multiple files for that day. and a few of them just started appending the time in 24 hour format. I was so proud.
must be nice to have such a hot water supply with high pressure
not everybody has that
