This is a main reason why Newsom is second to last in my list of preferred 2028 Democratic nominees who have expressed interest.

I just wrapped up the Disaster Gays Detective Agency by Lev AC Rosen. Sadly, I was disappointed.

You have the correct mindset to deal with any information from my country.

I agree that this is the big issue. I need to see a majority of GOP against him as well as a supermajority if not a consensus of independents to feel like we’ve broken this Trump fever. I also need a supermajority of GOP to be against authoritarianism to believe we broke through the underlying problem with fascism in our system.

I wanted to disagree, but I think I can only disagree about the time of death.

I enjoyed Vagabond, even though Tim Curry explicitly kept the reader at a distance. While no one has to define their sexuality, I would have been interested in learning about those who he chose to love.

I’m slowly reading Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar for a book club. I’m definitely nervous about where it’s going to go. I also have Stephen Fry’s Mythos on hoopla and I just started listening to Patrick Stewart’s autobiography from libro.fm.

Apparently, he was willing. /srs

TBF most of the people who are still living have no clue what that meme is. Hell, my knowledge stops at it exists.

I stepped away from my regular queer literary fiction and romance since a couple sci-fi books came through my holds. I think I’m back on the saddle after a summer of being unable to get deep into books.
I quickly listened to All Systems Red for book club and I’m in the middle of Project Hail Mary. I’m enjoying them both. Next on the list is Martyr!

We don’t want our next military leaders to know about potential threats while maintaining and mobilizing our forces, apparently.

Due to all the disaster videos shown during reporting, I stayed away from news reports about this catastrophe. I was confused about the related earthquake I heard about. I was looking for confirmation that the avalanche caused the seismic event instead of the other way around. In short a good, if semi-paywalled, report about the facts and hypotheses.

The one fandom I’m in uses a mix of IG, BlueSky, tumblr, and gasp FB.

Neither of them would have won either, especially at that moment in time. If we were to have an election today or even last year, Newsom totally could have won, but that summer the GOP candidate was already ascendant in an environment that organically (gullible and cynical voters/media ) and artificially (money & EC) made it so he would win.
You don’t know me, so don’t do this “sheep” thing with me. There was only one week that summer I thought a Democrat could win that election. I hoped I was wrong, but I wasn’t. 2016 definitely taught most of us that electability was not a science. We’re all in politics, just some of us are unwilling participants.

I thought (and still do) Kamala was the best chance at the time and circumstance, but I could tell that it would be a heavy lift for her to succeed. Enough Indies and Republicans bought into the obvious lies from the GOP campaign and nearly every incumbent party was being voted out all over the world so I also saw it coming. Especially so, when my feed filled up with tons of hope-ium from progressive pundits and influencers. Outside of perhaps the late great Dolly Parton, I don’t think anyone would have beaten the GOP candidate in 2024.

[F-slur]s and their Friends Between Revolutions by the late Larry Mitchell is a fable written mostly in small poems about a society that marginalizes queer people as they build and rebuild their community. It was written in pre-HIV era New York, but is timeless in its chaotic radical fairy tone. It discusses some social and sexual practices rather explicitly, so if you don’t think it’s for you, it might not be.

That’s the kind of optimism I’m looking for. /lh
I’m getting ready to read today the Stonewall Reader and Cemetery Boys: Espritu for a couple book clubs. I also have checked out Steven Rowley’s latest Take Me With You. Now to find somewhere cool to start reading them.
