Asking multiple times will get you variations with different policies, some of which sound distinctly un-X-ish, like “be mindful of cultural sensitivities.”
Well... yeah, that's a fair point. The strength of Israel's lobby has a ton to do with it (and lobbies like China can accomplish the same types of things). It's 100% true.
The weird thing is, it is. These guys who want to knock out the pillars of democracy and sell them as scrap like a bunch of methheads taking apart the load bearing structure of their own parking garage, never set up shop in one of the "after" republics like Russia or wherever. They always wanna come to our places so they be reaping the tasty profitable stable fruits of the democracy they're dismantling.
Because once that door swings open a little bit... who knows what might bear some scrutiny?
Who made the clothes you're wearing? Or your phone? Were they a slave? A child? Are they even still alive, or do they have cancer because of the factory where they worked? Do their parents miss them, if they're gone?
What happened to make the chicken sandwich you had at lunch? Are you complicit in slow torture unto death, just by existing in the modern world?
Better to keep the door shut tight, and attack the messenger if anyone has anything to say about it. We're just making music here. No torture, no killing, no profit from the destruction of lives. Just music! Trust me. Enjoy.
(I don't think most people are like this. I actually think most people in the West at this point are against the "war" in Gaza, to at least some tepidly inactive degree. But certainly, also, a lot of people aren't against it, q.v. this article.)
Someone else had one, it was great, Facebook bought it, and then they (to their credit) made it available for free to everyone for quite a while, and now they've decided you know what maybe we can have a little disinformation and it's okay, you guys understand, right?
I feel like a lot of these people are unprepared for the civil war they claim to want
When you live your whole life in a cushy environment with more competent people than you making sure that the lights stay on and the food keeps coming, it’s easy to have this weird fantasy that you are God’s chosen person and you can wander around believing and doing whatever you want. Just looking at this woman’s face, though, I feel like she would be the first to abandon her convictions and say yes judge I’ll do whatever you want once the cell door swings closed for real. Maybe I am wrong but that is the feeling I get from looking at her.
Yeah, it’s going to be tough. It looks like they’re using custom software for it, which means basically the most realistic path to get there would be to toss the site and switch to something like Wordpress which I am guessing they don’t want to do.
A lot of the best communities to be in have a barrier to entry
The community of pilots, the people who work in medicine or on floor X, the people who are proud of what they can accomplish and recognize automatically that the value of the interactions they have are not worthless.
Idk how you bring that to the online space. But it is missing, yes. I like this essay.
There’s a good chance that those will become too hot for athletes to compete in in most cities (or their former sites) by a few decades later. Of course long before then, the Olympics will have stopped happening as the apocalypse takes hold for real.
Don’t forget Mrs. “I’m with Her”’s nod and wink to the coup in Honduras that fucked things up in pretty permanent fashion there up to and including to the present day
I remember voting for Sanders a couple different times
Biden did quite a bit for the working class, although quite a lot more would be fuckin fantastic. But I do get your point. I feel like maybe you are confusing “get to vote for” with “get to have on a silver platter without needing to play on the tilted table that is US politics and actually get the dude or dudette elected”. I don’t think there has ever been a country where the ruling class will let go of power and give the people a fair shake just because they stand up and say “better candidates pls I don’t like these ones.”
In other words what’s your alternative, just give up and wait for things to get worse until we all starve or go to the camps?
And, that 37k is only directly verifiable deaths - an honest estimate for the actual number of people killed, verifiable and not, is in the hundreds of thousands.
I was going to link to the same Lancet study you did, but you already took care of it for me.
The one time the UN looked in detail into this theory, it turned out it was crap. Hamas and civilians are sometimes next to each other just because they all live in Palestine, but the claimed thing where they would deliberately gather up some civilians and have them stand next to their installation, as if this would deter the Israelis or as if there was any shortage of non-artificial civilian casualties and so it was useful on any level to create some artificially, was it turned out a bunch of hooey.
