They do. Without push notifications you are not getting instant messaging when the app is in the background. At that point you could just use email instead.
I donated to a German outlet recently. Could I do more? Sure. But that is true of a lot of things :)
Also not sure how this is relevant to this at all. I did not ask for better journalism on this topic, but for none. Just post the primary source instead of a rehashed version.
Journalists should provide something more than aggregation imo, like context, commentary or even critical research.
Now if you want to use a simple aggregator, that is fine. And as you point out, I use lemmy as such.
My problem is that we aggregate the aggregator here. If you want to read the Verge, go for it and subscribe to their newsletter. But why would I want it on lemmy? What value does it provide? The primary source is easy to understand and accessible.
Well it is hard to say now how these services performed globally. That is her main point. You can build a great self-hosted service in the US and EU, but will it work just as well in [anywhere else]?
Noone could use ICQ on their mobile device either, so that also added a lot of additional challenges.
I think you are thinking to hard about stories that aren't meant to be thought about a lot. Whether you half the population or double the resources it is just a temporary "fix" anyways. It's just a plot device for creating conflict and killing off fan favorites without actually killing off fan favorites in the end.
And with them being potentially already in a recession hidden by the AI bubble... If shit hits the fan, its gonna be a fun ride. Can't really increase spending to stimulate the economy if you're already slinging cash to the wealthy.
If I read it correctly, they reverted the change for this app because it does not contain text itself.
It is fine to disagree about this for sure, in fact you'll never find a solution that makes everyone happy. Fortunately, you can add other repositories to F-Droid if you don't like there decisions.
I think the line is drawn if the content is contained in the app itself. Fediverse/Wiki apps are more like a browser. If you choose to visit a "NSFW" mastodon instance that is between you and the instance, not F-Droid.
While these text obviously depict violence in a plethora of ways, it once again shows how flawed "NSFW" is as a catch all label. As a priest the bible is obviously safe for work. For a sex worker porn and sex toys are safe for work, etc. We as society should learn to use more useful content warnings everywhere.
Hm don't agree with their choices, but interesting to read through the thought process. The more colorful theme seems more useful to me, even if I can't remember the colors I use. I think its a VS code standard theme. I never really cared about customizing everything in general, I just keep what I found useful around.
Huh. Firefox has shown a very strong warning by default now for years. I thought Chrome would be even more restrictive about it
