  • I am from cheap part of Europe. While you can get glasses for 20 Euros, with those kind of requrements 250 sounds about the same.

I guess some countries might get prescription, but I doubt "light frame and light lenses with darkening" would qualify.

  • Because it works and we didn't need to change anything in the last 20 years. I don't even think about it.

Whenever I try something else, problems come as soon as I want something that's not default. Which is often.

I don't even know how to install Gentoo. I did it two times, second time was when upgrading to 64bit architecture.

  • It really depends on your needs. 3D printing community is very satisfied with FreeCAD, and GIMP is great for my needs when I need to find a way to increase visibility of some features in drone images and than make python script to repet it hundreds of times. No way I could do it in in PS. Making it run under wine already takes too much time.

And it is not only about money for license but about freedom.

I always see coments like this, and while I appreciate sharing of experience it is just being boring. At least add something specific and don't be a bot.

  • Strange is using and marketing someone else's name without written permission.

Why do you think linux distros and free software have such strange names? To avoid stepping on someone toes without expensive trademark research.

  • And relying on marketing by someone you don't control is not good decision even if losing some mind share.

  • I am in the linux world 20+ years. Used SUSE for short amout of time back than and never really cared much about it, just glad it still exist.

This is the first time I am hearing openSUSE is not part od SUSE.

Having different name should be good for all. I think openSUSE people should have done it long time ago. But sounds like name is not the only problem.

  • I juat don't understand why Democrats don't nominate literally anyone else and win election, without risking Trump winning?

I don't put this on some random people when real culprit is Democratic Party. It is almost like they want Trump to win.

  • I don't have solution for videos, but I am moving back to podcasts and rss as much as possible. I want to be ready when they finally forbbid watching without ads.

But I must admit content creators are not helping, content for most of them become just job to be done with. I am aware it is not their fault and that yt is pushing them, but content is geting worse.

It is hard to compete with platform that is loosing so much money. They will also buy anyone who tries. Maybe if we start being satisfied with one resolution and quality, but that will never happen.

  • Not only that, I am certain Google will put as much money as needed into it not to allow any competing platform.

YT is not profitable, but gives them data, power and control.

  • They are not PR people, don't expected that of just normal people having fun. No one is promising "chrome killer coming in six months".

Thig is that for SerenityOS they want to make everything from scratch, ssh, ssl, libraries, utils, text editor... even the browser. They could have just porr Firefox, but that was not the point. To use it you had to complile whole OS.

But since browser got some attention and sone complex sites (like guthub and twitter) started working in it, to make project more viable they are dropping this constraint for browser. I guess they migt use some gui library, ssl lib, codecs... stuff like that. But, I expect, they will not use others code for rendering engine and js, but continue with implementation from documentation.

While some in this thread say they are racist, homophobic and stuff. Maybe some are maybe just not polished for public speak, do we really think everyone in google is totally clean?

  • I always wondered why they haven't been doing it from the start, seams like it is not as simple as I imagine.

People will take it, there is no other option and G is working hard not to allow another video platform.

Problem is ads they are playing are awful and loud. We will make way to silent them and black them out, it is not hard.

Bigger problem is content they are pushing is getting bad and is pushing creators into burnout. And I don't want to see videos companies are creating, but want individual contributions.

  • This is news from September and linked blog post from December. Nothing happened.

  • It still costs money for hardware and hosting. Scraping web and training AI ain't cheap.

  • Do you have an idea what attracts you to her?

Do you know how humans choose their partners?

\We usually choose ones that wake up our traumas. It is known emotion for us and looks like attraction, especially sexually. Yeah, we are quite perverse. You know that old idiom "similar to your mother", yeah but not physically or obviously. For me it was that my mother, contrary to what she is saying, hated her father. That also means she hates all man, including her son (me). Keep in mind she is not aware of any of this hate. So until I discovered that, I was attracted to women that hated their father in the same way my mother did. They also hated, and were attracted to, all man. You can imagine how difficult those relationships are.

Go get her, you will have your hearth broken. And it is worth it. But also find some psychotherapist to help you with solving this issue so that next one will be the one that is kind to you.

  • how do you travel to another city?

    Usually by bus or train.

What do you do if the city has high slopes making walking and biking too hard?

Walking is good for you, biking is not too popular in cities with slopes, but electic bikes are changing that.

Or how do elders deal with what other citizens would take for granted in terms of mobility?

There is definitely less mobility, but that is part of getting older isn't it? Usually they just walk a bit slower and use busses and taxies.

  • I think they are selling hardware on reduced price so they can make money on cloud services. And by spying and selling customer data.

The problem is that investors want to invest in data collection, not in making new hardware and service.

  • While being right about crypto being meaningless for some people (I guess there are people valuing hope in decentralized monetary system, even if it is misplaced.), you failed to mention that most of other industries are equally meaningless and good part of them are even harmful: fashion, fast food, industrial food, banking - in a way we have it, cars in current form(no need for this huge tanks)...

In comparation crypto is just wasteful and isn't harming anyone.

  • I came to say that. Not everyone has to change completely, reducing meat intake a little, eating meat with less emissions and even different beef farms haslve large range of emissions. There are different ways of raising beef.

So for sustainability there are multiple solutions.

For promoting veganism and reduce animal suffering only one, which I do support, but don't put them together. It will only pusg people away from any improvement.

  • This thread reminds me of stackoverflow, most people are just convincing you in something else and it is obvious they have never been in your (and mine) situation.

Just answer question if you have some idea, yes we know python exist, that's nice, but not an answer to this question.
