  • Yes. It's more or less the main way to get things done in a productive manner. Is the person stressed with deadlines? Giving them the safety to speak out that, for example, the constraints are unrealistic is better for everyone involved in the long run.

I was once of a more cynical disposition and automatically assumed the worst in people. It's a very sad way to live.

I find the Wikipedia article to be wishy-washy on its content and seems to contain more buzzwords than giving the reader an idea on what it is. Better resource if one needs concrete examples: https://positivepsychology.com/non-violent-communication/#what-is-nonviolent-communication-3-real-life-examples

  • I would have put Shinkai's works at the top if the current year is 2016-2018. The other studios learned a lot from him, in my opinion. His art styles are some of my favorites to this day, though.

  • As an independently-produced short film, its production values punch above its weight. Gigguk is really passionate about anime, and I love it each time the medium portrays non-East Asian cultural elements.

Not that long ago, I've made it a goal to someday produce even a short anime. This inspires me towards that point.

  • It's a cut above most of the other episodes in the second cour: Morihito becomes a completely different person when it comes to denims (as seen in the banner). All's well after he obtained a 1 million yen Levi's thanks to Nico.

And to prove among the guys that Morihito can plan dates the best, he asked out Nico O_O. It's hectic and planned to the last minute, but Nico is able to convince him in the end that going off script is fine.

There's only one episode left and it's only now that there is some suspense/tension/antagonist entering the show.

  • Holy moly that sakuga

  • About the Ichigo/Rukia shipping, they have better chemistry. At the time, I thought it was never going to be romantically canon because it's a human/shinigami ship.

  • “Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

Edit: As I took another look at the comments and the picture, the picture points to Mars. I confess I commented because of assumptions that "know your place" and the arrow points to our pale blue dot, Earth. Guilty as charged in reading the headline and not the content. The Omnissiah is not amused at the weakness of my flesh.

  • We have a human tendency to take safe spaces to mean "safe space for me, even if I make others unsafe".

  • Uron Mirage-themed episode. Kukumi and Makuwa-sensei's doujin dream comes to fruition. They barely made it through the printing deadline.

It was worth it. Kukumi is able to secure a spot in the event (in Tokyo Big Sight). Makuwa had to bail, but good thing Morihito and Nico could substitute. Nico could use her magic to fix a last-minute printing issue.

While doing that, she committed a slight mistake of changing Morihito's hair to white. That turned into an unintentional cosplay of Oboro's newly-revealed form, turning the (women) target audience crazy.

  • Umazing

  • Thank you for posting the full quote and the context.

Not a fan of the guy, yet I don't celebrate his murder. And regarding the full quote, he's misguided imo.

The way I understand the words...

"Empathy" - Able to approximately feel what someone else is feeling, like absorbing the mood of the room. Their emotions become your emotions.

"Sympathy" - Able to 'put yourself in their shoes'. Understand someone's feelings; at the same time, very aware of your own, which can be different.

Empathy can be used for evil ends, yet it itself is not a bad thing to have.

  • If Oshi no Ko S3 stops where I think it would stop, I'd watch no further than that point. Mengo's art carried this series. Aka could never end it strongly.

  • Kitagawa can appear half naked at a cosplay convention in front of dozens but can’t tell a boy she likes him 🤷

S1 touches on that subject: you can almost feel like an entirely different person when you cosplay a character.

  • I'm curious at the reverse: what are common examples of Western animation humor that would be hard to translate outside of English?

  • Cloverworks actually did it, again*. This madlad of a studio is releasing banger after banger this season across three shows. Unlikely to be replicated because of potential burnout issues, but still, mighty impressive.

Does it meet my initial hype? Short answer: Yes and no. Long answer: Yes, and it's more fully-realized in MDUD.

    *See below

After properly watching Episode One, and also watching My Dress Up Darling S2, I can tell MDUD is the studio's passion project, sadly at the expense of this anime and perhaps Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, which I haven't started yet. The telling sign is the inconsistency of animation quality: Rintaro's CGI walking sequence at 0:40 of the OP, juxtaposed with the scenes depicted just eight seconds later, made me cry inside at the what-could-have-beens.

This team can draw excellent animation if enough resources are given. See Akebi's Sailor Uniform. Here, they have to be selective on where to spend their time and money, For example, car animations are... ass, like they used Blender to move them from point A to point B and call it a day. On the other end of the spectrum, the sakuga moments are absolutely brilliant, like I can count the number of shows that have better shots than those with only one hand. Kaoruko's reactions and faces are some of the most expressive I've seen yet.

    Other stuff I noticed:

    • Episode structure, eyecatch, and title card is reminiscent of Your Lie in April. I was half-expecting wacci's Kirameki to play in the ED.

    • Just like MDUD S2 is Bocchi-fied, the gags include artstyle changes to a lesser extent. I hope it's not overdone here. KaoruHana's story feels like it should be taken seriously.
    • Kaoruko's face looks like a grown-up version of Akebi Kao's in some ways

As for the story itself, I need more time to digest it. I just finished The Dangers in My Heart and am feeling kinda empty right now.

By Cloverworks standards, the quality could be better. And yet at that state, it's much, much better than other shows out there. That says a lot about what the studio's capable of. The BD release may contain quite a bit of cleanup work. This show more than deserves to be a moving artbook!
