  • The old adage I learned is half your age + 7.

    51/2 25.5+7 32.5

Seems you would be good aiming a little low! However, no harm in meeting someone new!

  • The first rule of gen-x is you don't talk about gen-x!

  • Sorry, I should have specified that I made the same declaration when all this shit started. I agree completely and do think that is a signal of someone badass! No sarcasm intended!

  • This guy was first picked during dodge ball!

  • Installing stuff, then looking online for a way to fix an annoyance, find a script to fix a StackOverflow post that vaguely matches our issue, only to break that thing even more. Rinse and release, ad nauseum.

  • No one admits when they don't know something. The mentality of, fake it until you make it, casts ignorance as some sort of failure to be ridiculed. As a result we have politicians and laymen believing they can do something or know better than experts on a specific topic.

The other is the complete lack of humility or embarrassment when fucking up. People will just stream or post their most idiotic ideas to get 'views,' even if it makes them look terrible. This idea where you need to live-stream your entire life baffles me. Not sure if this falls under the tech and social media restriction of this post.

  • After my generation dies you might be able to move forward in some of those fronts.

Before this most recent US election, I had the same thought that the old fossils in power are the reasons nothing is getting better.

  • It's like when a toddler gets overly emotional and tries to smack at you!

  • I learned the secret for beating a polygraph test from Penn and Teller's Bullshit!. The secret is clenching your buttcheeks the whole time, only relaxing when telling a lie.

  • Aren't death sticks a Star Wars reference?

  • I'd care a hell of a lot less about the amount if it felt like it was being used for anything other than padding rich assholes pockets. I want my taxes to feed and help people, repair and maintain roads, and subsidies public transit. I guess I'm saying I want my money to help my community and the vulnerable, not sit in some rich fuckers bank account while a homeless settlement I drive by daily grows, tent by tent.

  • My parents', stop crying or I will give you something to cry about, keeps me from being able to handle my 5yo when he's getting emotional or crying about something I see as trivial or is a resolved conflict.

I feel embarrassed when someone, even my wife, sees me cry. I usually break down alone and as quietly as possible to avoid being caught. I'm better at letting that shit go, now, and allow myself to break down in front of my wife, but no one else.

  • Exactly! As soon as they started bombing everything and using safe zones to group up civilians to bomb them easier, I was done listening to anyone suggesting they were jUsT dEfEnDiNg ThEmSeLvEs. You don't bomb civilians and children and you don't bomb the places you've outlined as refugee safe zones, medical units, or journalists. Bunch of fucking monsters.

  • I was a firm believer that all the really close personal guy friends I'd ever had, I made in high school or before. The idea that as an adult male that I could expect to make another real bond with anyone new, outside of this circle of old friends, was impossible. Until it did. In my mid to early 30s, my dept. merged with his. We had talked a few times while making fun of clueless users forgetting their passwords, so I already knew we would get along as coworkers. He was a groomsman at my wedding many years later.

I know it can seem insurmountable to find meaningful male friendships in mid-upper 20s and 30s, but it does happen. I'm rooting for you friend. Take care of yourself.

  • There was also that time he didn't check the expiration date on the milk and wrote, Mein Klumpfs.

  • It's just crypto all the way down!

  • Don't feel bad. Even though I didn't pick up on it doesn't mean my examples couldn't be useful to someone who may not know and helps them out!

If I could ask, how did you pick your Lemmy name? Does it mean something?
