Honestly everything other than variety and scale of communities. It's not as big of a compliment as it sounds like though - Reddit is almost unspeakably shitty. Pay a visit to the front page or whatever they call it now and be greeted by nothing but ragebait, hornybait, gender war content, political discussion with zero critical or individual thinking, and 500 popular communities that are completely undifferentiated because they form a singular bland monoculture circle jerk that just repackages the day's hot topic in whatever shoehorned way it can into every subreddit (Lemmy is starting to do this too though yay...). The only difference between it and tiktok is the UI tbh
I mean the purpose of disinformation is to create disinformed people, so unless they have a very conspicuous activity history, idk why people assume any account posting that stuff is a bot
I mean, if that's all the information they want to tell us, this news is useless. That's exactly my complaint. Why would I need to know even that much? The fact they publish it at all implies there's something newsworthy about it, but if there is, they aren't sharing it.
Yeah I understand the publication ban in place on the victim's identity which the victim willingly bypassed as well as the ban on the attacker's identity. I would think they could tell us more about the why, not the who, though. And if not, I would expect them to be clearer about the extent of the ban. But yes you're right, I am being a bit too harsh on CBC regardless... Its just frustrating to read that whole thing and not have any idea if the news means something substantial or is a very isolated incident.
That's a lotta words in this article to manage to not say one single thing about WHY it happened, or even address that one might wonder why this happened, or the extremely peculiar circumstances surrounding how it happened. So the boy came to this news group to, what, say "these guys beat me up" and they were just like "wow great can you tell us about what the hospital was like?"
Quite possibly one of the most worthless pieces of news I've ever read. Was it a hate crime, a drug deal, extortion, punishment for failure to exchange nuclear codes, infighting among Martians disguised as humans? Who knows, but thank goodness I got to hear from so many people how craaaazy wacko unexpected it is! Yeah, something tells me this kid isn't as surprised by this as the rest of us. All we get is:

It's always fascinating to me to think that the popes most likely do not believe that anything in their religion is actually true, and are only playing along with it because they either want the power associated, or in the case of this one seemingly, think that it's an effective way of wrangling the opinions of the idiot masses. It really must be a very interesting mentality they have. A bit like a noble sacrifice in some ways, if weren't for the huge luxuries and power associated with it of course.
Yeah agreed. Lemmy is way better than Reddit in the sense that 30 feet underwater is closer to the surface than 200 feet underwater. But you're still drowning either way. I mean, it ain't quite that bad... But yea. People aren't really any more free-thinking or open-minded here, it's just that their opinions that they've stubbornly and thoughtlessly arrived at are generally more correct.
