  • Lots of drivers pass too close and too fast, and the majority of the time they want to zoom past me only to roll stop through the next stop sign or wait for me to arrive at the crosswalk and press the light. They'll also stop if a car is parking, or another car coming in the opposite. Nah, they can wait for me on my bike or they can use another any of the 100 roads specifically designated for them.

Though, not all the time. If I'm taking the lane it's for a reason. It doesn't help when drivers then use that moment to ride up right behind me. Car drivers treat bikers like shit and expect to be treated like royalty.

  • Has anyone tried switching from coffee to caffeine pills and was it the same, better, or worse?

  • I rarely go straight decaf (because I can tell) but when I feel like my tolerance is peaking I'll mix decaf into my regular beans in whatever ratio. It works fine for all brew methods.

  • These are not imaginary uses cases. Are you generally critical of technology?

  • babies born into bleak future by humans who forgot to consider whether or not it's in the best interest of anyone but themselves

  • As a millennial who wasn't interested in computers these types of stories will haunt me my entire life

  • "Oh cool what are they thinking of?"

Samsung is working on a new AI experience

    Fuck...

I was thinking that every app would have deeper settings embedded (which seems worse) but I guess the idea here is to bake settings into the OS so only AI can access them. Would this allow for a lot more settings or a lot more nuanced settings?

Gut reaction to AI in 2024 is very bad but I guess a part of me is still curious what they are thinking of doing here.

This is also interesting because like it or not these companies already have a ton of knowledge about you and how you use your device and this may be a way for that data to be served to us in a useful way. I'd prefer they didn't have the data in the first place.

  • Obviously both

  • The forum I used to spend a lot of time on in my youth was incredibly active - comments all night every couple minutes. The regional areas where practically dead. What we need are thriving core communities not critical mass. I like not being bombarded by thoughtless and judgmental comments

I'd guess that 50-100 active users could make any community feel vibrant. I've noticed when I post in a smaller community it can get solid responses (fast replies from a dozen or so users), but they die out after a day or two and people need to be posting all the time to keep it up.

  • At this point I've blocked so many .world communities that I don't see that as much. There are some users who I notice bring the reddit antagonism and I tend to block them too. If I come across a post that is full of reddit quips I just block the whole community. I guess I've blocked fewer .ml communities overall.

  • Ya it's not bad. In the popular areas it seems like I can get away with just commenting on things but smaller communities I need to make a post to make it feel not-dead in there.

  • Obviously both

  • I think you'd be better off getting a MIPS helmet. This is definitely a cool design project turned into novelty product.

  • edit: read this as 'most' not 'least'. I'll leave my comment tho.

If I need to make multiple stops on an errand run I'll always pick bike over anything else. It's the best.

Otherwise I like how chill it can be while still being a practical mode of transportation.

  • Friday, am drunk. At least during the daylight I'll be sober living my life.

Good news though, my workplace is attempting to form a union. Signed my card today. Fuck management, the spineless bastards.

  • I'm quite attached to sensodyne since I have gum/cavity issues (genetics..). I want the science in my mouth. I don't know how much of that belief is just good marketing but I'm afraid to test it.

  • That makes sense. Can lock the front tire but not much of the frame. We had one of these installed near me and most people locked to the side of it until the business replaced them.

  • I feel like lemmy is in a decent place right now. The main page is busy enough with a good amount of OC and alright discussion. It's a lot to ask for 1000+ active niche communities. I have a few things that bug me and I'm not sure ballooning members would fix it: reddit-like anti-social behaviour, excessive reposts, and posts about MAGA people. I've blocked a lot of communities, some users, and very few nsfw instances.
