So that was a resounding success, after a few days of using Pixelfed I found a local coffee roaster that I had no idea existed, and I'm browsing beautiful pictures with virtually no influencer pollution. There's the occasional scantily clad OnlyFans type of post every so often but it's okay.
The lack of posts pushing stuff on you is such a breath of fresh air, it's scary to see how social media has become a vehicle to shove marketing at you, subtle or not.
It honestly depends on the quality of the socks you buy. I have a few indestructible pairs that weren't even that expensive tbh, but on the other hand I got gifted a pair for Xmas that disintegrated after the first wash. Stay away from Amazon alphabet soup brands! Stay away from Amazon full stop actually
I personally like bamboo, not sure how much water it needs, but it grows really fast. The fabric itself is wonderful, it's fluid and does not bother my skin like poly does.
Personally I think the environmental impact and the sycophantic responses that take away the need for one to exercise their brain are my 2 biggest gripes.
It was a fun novelty at first, I remember my first question to chat gpt was 'how to make hamster ice cream' and I was genuinely surprised that it gave me some frozen fruit recipe along with a plea to not harm hamsters by turning them into ice cream.
Then it got out of hand very quickly, it got added onto absolutely everything, despite the hallucinations and false facts. The intellectual property issue is also of concern.
No I mean it works perfectly fine but - it's absolutely my fault for getting a 60% - I cannot deal with all the shortcuts and hotkey combinations. Like, the up arrow is the same key as ?, and when I was on Minecraft trying to ask a question I'd end up repeating myself because I'd hit enter as soon as I finish typing my ?. But of course the blasted thing thought I wanted the up arrow (loading the previous message sent).
Anyway that's just me being a plonker, there's nothing inherently wrong with Royal Kludge keyboards. Except the name maybe 🤔
I was like you and I took the plunge when W10 was given its death sentence. I watched a few tutorials on YouTube, picked a distro (Mint, it feels very familiar if you come from a windows environment) and after a few days of dual boot I got rid of Windows for good. Never looked back.
Initially there were some little hurdles with games, you can install Steam very easily (flatpaks are a godsend) but only a small selection of games are Linux-compatible by default. Then I heard about Proton, and with another flatpak installation boom all my Steam games worked, and damn well I have to add.
Then I heard about Lutris, and my Sims games that I thought I'd never get to play again now work.
Please don't worry about not knowing what you're doing, if you pick a distro like Mint you will not have to mess up with the terminal unless you choose to. Try running a distro on a virtual machine to see how it feels!
I forgot I had a medical appointment earlier today and yet I remember the cheat code you have to dial on the phone in Theme Hospital (spoiler it's 24328). Curious.
