  • Now I can't unsee all the isometric mistakes the artist made

  • I bought everyone in my family a drink to get them to use Signal. Worked great and we're still on it.

Don't bother trying to sell people on privacy etc, for the most part. Show them Giphy integration, stickers, Stories, etc and show them that it's fun. Signal has done great work there, in making it "noob-friendly"

  • Yeah, to be clear, I just mention clickbait titles to say "no thank you", and the Fediverse doesn't need that.

I'm borrowing the term "growth hacking" from the VC "growth at all costs" community, but using it as more of a comparison. Growth is good, but uncontrolled growth is called cancer. How can we cultivate good, healthy growth, and what goes too far?

I think GIFs are kind of in a grey area. They can start to create the same stale meme feed as you mention, but if there's some meat underneath that, that makes people stick around, then I think it's worth it.

By posting consistently, I don't mean spamming. It's more "try to be active". You can't start a community by assuming "if you build it, they will come". As an example, I started moderating !msp@midwest.social, and I've helped it out by posting interesting local news articles. I don't just automatically repost everything though, that would be too spammy. I read the papers and specifically think about what articles would be interesting to post there.

  • I tried poking around the HTML and didn't see any way to tell the original published date. If you see some way of determining that, I can definitely add that in

  • Thanks, I think you're posting that because the link is better for mbin? I tried to include the right format in the body, but I've edited it to use the format you're using. Went over to view the post from moist.catsweat.com (great name btw, works nicely in the Firefox tab bar

) and it seems like it works now?

  • What do you mean by Loopless? I'm running GrapheneOS with sandboxed Google Play services that isn't logged in to any account and the app works normally as far as I can tell. At any rate, might be worth posting about in !loops@lemmy.world, someone else might be having the same experience as you.

  • TIL, thanks!

  • There's advantages to being passive aggressive, like making the other person feel like an asshole. Only works if the other person has the capability to feel shame, though.

  • Oh, I don't think the web version allows for browsing videos at this point. It's still in heavy development. I can log in on the web on Firefox, but that just lets me change account settings and whatnot.

  • Here's my impression of Brazil as an American (I think it's a country?)

  • You have to be a little careful with what seems "obvious". Solar roadways had some enthusiasm behind them, but they turned out to have a lot of challenges:

    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20725910

That being said, I can't think of any reason why this is a bad thing. It does seem really obvious with no major drawbacks

  • Oh hey, are you also @gedaliyah on Loops? If so, I've been enjoying your loops! I've been reposting to !loops@midwest.social

  • Between "dad" and "young lady", this just makes it seem like it was socially acceptable in the 70's to air your daddy kink out in public

  • I think "dad" is short for "daddio", but I've never heard it used like that. Bonus panel:

Was originally looking for this panel, but decided it was too straightforwardly domestic abuse and/or fetishy. Thought the posted panel was better anyways, though. Transcript of this panel:

Chuck: I'm going to spank you, Mrs. Brant... just a reminder that I'm your husband!

Diane: Don't you dare, you... Ohh, not so hard!

Edgar: Er... care for another dance, Mrs. Brant?

    Diane: N-no... I think I'll sit... I mean stand around a while!

I also came across an interesting article:

Let’s put a bit of context on this. Love stories aimed at a predominantly female readership have been around since at least the early twentieth century, and through much of that time some of them have included spanking scenes. In the comic books, romance really got started as a distinct genre after the Second World War, and there was a very noticeable spike in the number of spanking scenes in 1949-50: a staggering seventeen are known from those two years, ten of them concentrated in the second half of 1949 alone.

  • Bonus panel:

Somehow, I doubt they'd write "Sly little men from Washington"

  • Yeah, it would be great to see partnerships in the sense of like comments sections for magazines hosted on Lemmy or something. Not sure if that's what you're talking about, but that would be a neat Fediverse feature.

  • Do you think memes and serious content belong in the same community? Maybe they don't if you're huge but the Fediverse is small enough that we shouldn't be splitting communities so readily?
