    Die Spanier haben das als "x" geschrieben weil sie "x" damals so ausgesprochen haben. Später gab es eine Lautverschiebung zum ach-Laut aber korrekt ist eigentlich der sch-Laut.

    I had a conversation with a fellow student in university who studied to become a teacher and talked about a math teacher who really made her appreciate the subject. I said I also had a very good math teacher, even tho I always liked math and was bored before he managed to individualize the tasks and gave me harder ones that challenged me. Later we realized we come from the same town, went to the same school and talked about the same teacher.

    I hope she is a good and inspiriting teacher by now

  • You could argue that it's reasonable to assume that all pizzas are the same size but there are many pizza places that offer different sizes. You could as well argue that this is an attempt to make the kids think outside the box and come up with this explanation. How big a fraction is depends on how much the whole is is a good message you can't learn too early. Understanding statistics is in large parts this. Many people will throw around percentages of pooling questions without ever questioning the pool of people asked.

  • Das erinnert mich an eine Anekdote, die Gretchen in Lingthusiasm geteilt hat: da hat jemand eine polysynthetische ConLang gemacht mit eigener Schreibweise, aber wenn mans ausgesprochen hat, war es eigentlich französisch. Wie wir Sprache wahrnehmen hat viel mit dem Schriftbild zu tun.

    Sumerisch, auf der anderen Hand, ist recht regelmäßig mit vielen Affixen (ich meine Suffixe) pro Wort aber keine Wechselwirkung dazwischen

    weil die Standards auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks ziemlich gleichzeitig entstanden sind. Man unterschätzt immer, wie jung einheitliche Rechtschreibung ist, in Deutschland erst 1903, das ist besonders spät durch die späte Staatsgründung und so aber ich schweife ab.
