Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • I can code my stuff ok on an older model. I’m sure there are some stacks that need more resources, but I’m having a hard time thinking of which.

Admittedly, on a laptop that is 20+ years old, I cannot surf the web AND run docker at the same time

  • That is boootiful

  • Same happens in computer programming. The wheels , roads and automobiles have been rediscovered and invented thousands of times

  • Unretiring is a new word I learned; it’s cute and distopian. It sounds nice until one thinks about it, and the word has hints of bitter darkness and grinding poverty.

  • Pasteurizing milk started as a convenience for customers; but many now days have forgotten what always happened to milk before it was drunk

People used to home pasteurize all the time; find any recipe in an older cookbook (1970s and before) and the first thing you do is scald the milk. Nobody drank unscalded milk.

The raw milk proponents, who believe it, forgot their own family history.

  • It cannot change as a nation. Any movement for federal reform is a lost cause. Certain states and municipalities could change, and that is where the future is for some citizens.

  • I feel like there are not any good and effective leaders or movements. At least not nationally

  • Just get a few million dollars from your relatives??

  • Many states have elections that do not allow recounts, using hidden methods to count, and flunk the same fraud checks used pretty in other counties reliably.

Given that, I’m not too worried

  • All he had to do was write a letter and say a few words. Easiest and least stressful way to get three hots and a cot.

  • So…. I am going to express my opinion that Trumpism is merely the latest, not so different, expression of American capitalism that has always been this nasty and poisonous. And this includes the raids and round ups currently in the news.

There are some things that changed: the targets and oppressed have changed for some. The messaging has changed.

It’s a fad. This will fade soon enough, and things will still be bad. The good guys will be elected and clean up some of the stuff, but most of what they do will be ineffective. And then the next bad guy will come to power

  • Sounds like needless destruction of a vehicle over international waters: almost like the usa navy is a rouge force of terror these days

  • I grew up in the south and spent many decades here: when I was a child there was still a different cuisine. But now I think the larger cities in the region has just generic North American culture, and one is far more likely to find Chinese, Indian or other influences now.

There is some southern cuisine barely surviving in the more rural areas, mostly by older people.

But yes, I think the so called southern food culture today is more of a non regional fad, like you mentioned

  • Have you tried accumulating power and wealth while hurting others? Normally that works

  • Large southern metro areas have the same life expectancy as other cities in Europe and North America. But the further one goes from those cities the lower the life expectancy .

So you are correct… but ( and there would be a but because I am commenting here), the southern recipes for adding a cup of butter and a pound of sugar are not helping

  • If they don’t love their job, they will leave.

    (Very few people are leaving).

  • microbe dominated world

Ediacaran Biota: “do I mean nothing to you?”

  • The only way to win is to not play. There may not be the ability to organize change in the national level, ever again. But I feel states and towns can improve things

  • The democrats will win congress next year, perhaps a democratic president will win in 2028. Then the gop will win congress and the presidency in the 2030s

This is expected and does not change what is happening. These elections are drama to distract. Many who fear fascism will find hope when the good guys win, and citizen’s attempts to reform the government will be diluted. Then they will be horrified again later when the bad guys win.

We have been watching these flips dictated by elections that fail United Nations tests for almost two generations now. Each good cop/bad cop cycle makes us poorer and less healthy and less well fed.
