Catherine is a drama queen and a real beetch sometimes.
Here is a neat listing of fediverse applications and their uses.
Of these I have only used Lemmy and PeerTube. Planning to try out PieFed soon.
Yes, male sperm whales possess testes, which are the equivalent of "balls" in other mammals. However, unlike most terrestrial mammals, their testes are internal, located within the abdominal cavity rather than in an external scrotum.
Size: Sperm whale testes are remarkably large, particularly in mature males. A single testis can weigh up to 500 kilograms (over 1,100 pounds), making them among the largest testes in the animal kingdom, both in absolute size and relative to body mass. This enormous size is thought to be an adaptation related to sperm competition, where larger sperm reserves can increase reproductive success.
I don’t set New Year-specific goals anymore since I find that being honest with myself about efforts from any starting point is more helpful than promising to make significant life changes at a specific date. That being said, my general goals are:
I looked up what constitutes a unit of microplastics and the definition I found in this article was “any synthetic solid particle or polymeric matrix, with regular or irregular shape and with size ranging from 1 μm to 5 mm, of either primary or secondary manufacturing origin, which are insoluble in water”.
Because “microplastics” is a broad term that covers particles of varying size, structure, and weight, researchers refer to them in terms of number of particles per unit or total mass of microplastics per sample.
The video you linked has the translator’s comments below which explain some of the expressions and metaphors used in the song. Their translation is pretty accurate and retains the overall message.
As a whole, the band didn’t present themselves as anti-Soviet or politically motivated aside from this song, or at least they were much more subtle about it. I think the song was so shocking and influential at the time because of how direct it was for the band and especially for the time period.
The band’s main lyricist and the writer of this song’s lyrics, Kormiltsev, was the most politically outspoken of the group. After the band split up, he became a writer and publisher who was openly critical of the Soviet system, nationalism, and authoritarianism. I found this out much later though, since there was hardly any mention of him in popular media beyond the band.
The frontman, Butusov, preferred to stay out of politics altogether and to focus on emotional and spiritual/religious themes in his music, both in Nautilus Pompilius and his projects after the band ended.
This was before my time though, so someone who has lived through it could give you better insight.
A few of my favorite well-known bands/artists in this genre:
I’ve also been enjoying music from Marshroot, a new artist from Ukraine.
Are you interested in other Soviet and Russian rock bands? I can recommend a few :)
Giving any kind of gift from the heart is a nice gesture. That being said, I always preferred giving cash to gifts cards since it doesn’t restrict the recipient to one store.
Although if you know their specific interests, gift cards are a good way to encourage someone to get themselves a treat they wanted but otherwise wouldn’t have splurged on, or a good gift for those who want to shop online without having to enter payment information.
With cash, there’s the pressure to spend it on essential things like groceries, rent, transportation…if my friends and family need any of those things, I would gladly help them pay for it without obligation, but it’s not what I would choose as a gift for special occasions. Not talking about generic gift cards, but I might give them a coupon for a salon I know they frequent, or a craft or music supply store where they go for equipment.

Everything habit you described as a “poor person habits” is just being environmentally conscientious and not being wasteful. It’s good practice regardless of whether you have money or not.
I take immense satisfaction from finding things on sale to the point of delaying buying them until I can get a good deal.
Thanks for providing a source!
I just noticed that we have nearly identical usernames, down to the instance 😯 I had to do a double-take when I saw the comment thread. It was not my intention to imitate you. I am simply not creative when it comes to choosing usernames.
Here is one article which makes a similar point, and another which discuss the strategies of scammers and profiles of people likely to fall for scams. (I made the original comment and am not the lime who responded to your citation request). I will address your other comments on the topic here.
I can also offer my anecdotal observations about Nigerian scams from time I spent scambaiting when I was younger, back when I thought I was doing a service by distracting scammers’ focus away from someone vulnerable, and because it was amusing to see what stories they’d come up with.
The long, elaborate (often romance and crypto-themed) scams you are thinking of are likely pig-butchering scams originating from China. Perhaps Nigerian scammers have evolved their strategies since then too; it has been years since I bothered to engage with them at all.
So no, I was not perpetuating a meme about scammers “preselecting stupid people”, nor did I say that everyone who falls for scams is stupid. Many are lonely, elderly, unfamiliar with technology, desperate, or kind-hearted but naive.
Often times scammers will deliberately tell unconvincing stories with errors in details and spelling to immediately filter out people who are cautious or observant enough to challenge them.
Those are two reputable brands with affordable models. You might be able to find better deals if you search around.
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. I couldn’t find a bandcamp link and wasn’t sure which alternative is preferred here.
Mizar are Macedonian, btw :) I’m glad you like the album, because there’s a lot more where that came from. I’m a big fan of folk influences in music in general.

The humor was a bit too edgy for him.
I’m pretty good at mentally filtering out posts and comments I’m not interested in that come up on my curated home feed. Even in topics I dislike, there can be informative or entertaining discussions so I don’t block unless it’s obvious spam or a bad attempt at trolling.
I also don’t like the low effort comments such as “fuck (unpopular thing on Lemmy)” but then I realized that it doesn’t matter enough to engage with or be annoyed over.
