  • So a dollar will only be worth one pence?

  • R and L are different letters with different pronunciation.

Out of interest, how do you pronounce "differently"? As "diffelently", or "differentry"?

  • None of this is existential for russia. It's all in putin's scrambled mind. Even if russia gets pushed completely out of Ukraine including Crimea; even if Ukraine joins NATO and there are US airbases and nukes every mile along the Ukrainian border with russia, none of it is existential. NATO exists as a response to russian aggression and imperialism, not to invade or defeat russia. It's only russia creating the false equivalence between "you won't let us invade other countries" and "you want to invade us". If russia could be trusted not to invade then NATO wouldn't be needed at all.

  • This sounds reasonable, but the logical conclusion of that is that the only people that associate with Nazis are other Nazis, or future Nazis (who may not realise it yet). This normalises nazism in a growing group of people because they don't have any moderate voices highlighting their more extreme thoughts and pulling them back towards normality.

Your argument also make the false assumption that Nazis are irredeemable. I'm sure some of them are. But I'm equally sure that at least some of them aren't.

  • Are there any specifics about this? It all seems fairly theoretical to me. What do they [want to] do that contradicts "doesn't sell your personal data" within the context of the fluid definition of "sell"? Do they sell my personal data or don't they? What definitions of "sell" are relevant here?

It's all sounding a bit Bill Clinton to me: "it depends on your definition of 'is'."

  • The question doesn't directly apply because I'm not an ex-believer, but I am sort of ex-church (attendance).

After years of praying for healing, for myself and others, and seeing nothing happen (beyond the natural healing that would have happened anyway had I not prayed for it), I prayed for someone to be healed and he died.

So that's how healing manifests through me. You aren't or you die. This seems in direct contradiction to Jesus' claim that all who follow him will do greater things than he did, which I interpret to mean at least the same as what he did, one of which was that everyone who came to him got healed.

So my church attendance is on hold for now while I work out why God doesn't want to involve me in his work. I'm still a believer, but obviously I can't preach "God heals" when my only direct evidence is that he doesn't. I'll go back when it's clear what he wants me to do.

  • Early CRTs were round, like in the Manchester Baby computer. They got squarer as they started being used for TV, more so as the scanning technology improved. You'll see early TVs from the 50s or so looking very squircular.

  • A foot as in 12 inches. An inch is 2.54cm.

  • You'd like the IOCCC.

  • I've ridden a motorbike in a T-shirt and kilt before. That's ... fun ...

  • No, the bug didn't have to get 500,000 upvotes in one week before they started looking at it.

  • Earlier this evening I expelled warm wet air through a curved metal tube with holes in it, for the glory of the Empire! Kaplah!

  • Three orders of magnitude. 1->10 is one order. 1->100 is two. And so on.

  • Personally I wouldn't abuse a language like that. If you want to write Python, write Python. Don't pretend some other language is Python, because it isn't. The braces need to be in the "correct" place, i.e. { at the end of a line or on a line on its own, and } on its own line, with both braces indented correctly for the code they contain. Braces are important visual and logical indicators in C-like languages and are critical in understanding the flow of the code.

That said, if this is some silly little noddy program that only you will ever see then you can write it however you want. Don't expect to be taken seriously as a competent dev though if this is going to be part of your public profile.

  • Just like they already do in other Muslim-majority countries.

  • How long do you think a strike would need to be for to be effective?

And suppose we start with that? Everyone'd be like "that's way too long". So let's start with a day and build from there. And if a day makes them take action then everyone's a winner.

  • What a guy. He shot to the top of my rankings that day three years ago when he said he needed ammo, not a ride. And unlike cowardly little shitbox hiding in his kremlin he's not afraid of visiting the soldiers on the front line.

If only all politicians put their country ahead of themselves like Zelensky does. What an amazing planet this could be.

  • Not too smart. Russia will see them as incarcerating a Russian hero for just doing his duty and use it as a pretext to invade.

A better idea would be to deport him to Russia (maybe toss him over the fence into Bellendrus). And being Ukrainian Russia will be torn between celebrating him as a hero and introducing him to an open window.
