  • This is great news :) but without wanting to be spammy the org I am a member of !globalorderofsatan@lemmy.blahaj.zone have been running a very similar campaign but for non-mainstream music e.g. metal/punk/indie/alt/industrial/goth that we call "Satan Not Hatin'"

It currently has over 140 opt-in participants of bands, individual artists, venues, festivals, record labels and other orgs from all over the world, including the UK and has been so successful that a well known (within metal circles) documentarian and music video director is currently making a Documentary about the campaign. You can visit the campaign website where we list all the participants and provide more detail - there's also a link to a YouTube playlist of all the participating bands which also works fine in Invidious!

I have contacted the Graun about Satan Not Hatin' but mainstream news has little love for alternative music so we'll carry on with our DIY approach!

  • Could be yeah. Very weird how it just started happening though. As far as I'm aware nothing on the websites has changed and I haven't updated LW in the last week or so.

  • The same type of right-winger as JKR and EM now are used to accuse the Williams sisters of being men. The same type of right-winger JKR and EM now are used to accuse Michelle Obama of being a man.

Strange how its mostly always women of colour who have these utterly baseless accusations leveled at them by right-wingers like JKR and EM. And when I say 'strange' I mean its not strange at all and is deliberate.

  • Whereas the true insanity is to let people get away with openly inciting race hate which leads to life threatening real-world consequences for the people on the receiving end of the lies.

Absolute free speech is the refuge of those without the common sense and maturity to realise it has led to deaths. It is entirely appropriate to legislate for those who want, or encourage, life threatening harm to come to others.

  • I did do all that research, none of which changes my opinion that its a bit shit that the only way to import your reading collection is via GoodReads.

To be clear, I'm not saying its a terrible project or even a bad one and I have joined up, I'm simply saying its a bit shit that you can only import from GoodReads. I'm not sure that's a terribly controversial opinion and its certainly not meant as a slight.

  • I definitely say read it and me saying its not as good as 1 or 2 is just my opinion :)

  • Its OK and worth reading just for the sake of completion but its not as good as 2 and nowhere near as good as the first one.

  • Joined but its a bit shit I can only import from GoodReads.

  • A few little things rather than one or two big things - email advertised as private but they won't let you use anonymous addresses (like anonaddy or duck.com) for recovery addresses, an ever growing portfolio of products that seem unfinished or incomplete or lacking in standard features like they're trying to corner the whole privacy market rather than making one or two products but making them really good, poor customer service and support as a continual theme throughout their existence.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting they're doing anything dodgy, I just feel that I don't really trust them. They just make really odd choices and it all feels like a haphazard rush.

  • You would think that someone at Proton would've had the foresight to realise the reputational damage this (along with the LLM announcement) would do to the company.

Without wanting to sound smart after the fact, I've been suspicious about Proton for years. I briefly had an email account with them but I could never quite shake the feeling there is something off about the whole company. This move just confirms to me I was correct to be suspicious.

  • If you decide to not use StickerMule again, as the org I'm part of now has, I'd suggest that rather than simply not using them to login to your SM account, then contact them via their Support interface and ask them to remove your account and all data associated with it or direct them to tell you how you can do it yourself and end by telling them exactly why.

  • House of Last Resort is by Christopher Golden. Straub died in 2022,

  • Whilst we don't have an atheist dominated society in the UK, christians do not make up the majority of the population either. Dawkins has made a specific choice to identify with that particular religion.

  • I won't care about that one either.

  • I think a christian publication is entirely within its rights to discuss the words of someone who describes themselves as a cultural christian.

And I don't really care if OP has an agenda or not, I'm answering the points you made on this post.

  • The author was talking about Dawkins specifically. She didn't make any claim about 'atheists' in general. And irrespective of her religious beliefs, the points she made about his words were valid.

  • There's a lot of so called atheists in the UK who are quite happy to give xtianity a free pass and at the same time pile on to other religions. We all know what they're really against.

  • I can vouch for whisper.cpp . It's not 100% perfect but it's good enough to transcribe a half hour podcast with numerous speakers and which requires pretty minimal fixing afterwards.

  • It is worth noting though, that Proton doesn't allow you to use certain domains for recovery addresses. Admittedly this was awhile ago and maybe things have changed there but when I first joined Proton they wouldn't allow me to set a duck.com or simplelogin.com or addy.io address as a recovery email.

Obviously using an apple ID is stupid but Proton could make more of an effort too.
