  • It snapped the tip of the carrot, which wouldn't be a lot of resistance

Based on what it didn't cut through, his finger should have been safe but apparently Tesla designed the thing to keep increasing the pressure if it detects resistance each time until it can close, which is absolutely baffling. I don't know of any other safety feature that turns down the safety the more it activates. The fact that it reacts to the exact same conditions differently each time should, in itself, be deeply concerning for any safety feature.

It might have been dumb of him to try it, but that doesn't change that it's still unsafe.

  • Maybe they'll open source it, making the NT Core kernel that does a third what NT can, go through three or four iterations over WinNT Core 12, 13, 14, before getting it up to almost feature parity with closed source Windows and change the name to just WinNT

But they'll probably just make it a subscription cloud service like you said

I used to say that people have been saying forever that Windows is going to be made a cloud service and I'll wait till I actually see evidence that's happening before I believe it, but watching everything they've done around 365 over the last few years... I'd almost be more surprised if they don't at least try that at this point

  • Green Ubuntu is Best Ubuntu

  • The kernel is what about did me in with a Gentoo install forever and a half ago, that part alone I think I fought with for a week before I got everything working

Great learning experience though, I agree

  • Okay, perhaps I should have been clearer, that's on me.

I meant qwerty and related layouts.

Things like Dvorak and Colemak, the movement keys are spread across the keyboard and if you want to navigate that way you'll pretty much have to remap them, and probably remap the keys you've swapped. For me, it's just easier to use the arrows than go through that.

  • Okay? Did I say anything about that being owed? They're also not owed a community using their community project, so acting like that just makes no sense and seems counter to a goal of building or maintaining an active community of users

I didn't say they aren't allowed to do that so maybe go have that argument with someone who did.

  • Honestly, EV-Go or Electrify America building NACS chargers isn't going to fix anything. The plug isn't what makes the Supercharger network appealing, it's the fact they ensure the stations are ubiquitous, fully functional, and the payment is seamless. If he's throwing out the team that is making sure those things continue to be true, the charging problem is only going to get worse.

  • How robust it'll be by the time other cars get access is now rather questionable with this firing spree

  • Honestly unreasonably infuriates me when I enter visudo and find myself in nano... Like, did I type nanosudo? Hell no!

  • Yeah, doesn't work so well when you're not using qwerty though

  • That's wild, flat out telling the community they're going to refuse to implement something if they want it enough to ask for it

I won't presume how easy or hard implementing that would be, but I have a hard time believing it would be so significant that this stance makes any sense at all

  • I will never forgive them for murdering Inbox.

  • Would that make them Oathbreaker Priests? Do they get special abilities for that?

  • Feels like they should, I'm not exactly thrilled by the idea of my tax dollars going into Musk's pocket just for the hell of it

  • Honestly? This.

The less I have to rely on Microsoft or googie for anything, the better.

  • I'm not positive but I'm assuming they're referring to a kind of MFA where the authenticating service pushes to the client you possess rather than relying on a temporal cryptographic key. I've got a few services which work that way

  • Yeah, I've used swipe typing for a really long time myself, and was forced to switch to GBoard when Swype was discontinued, and I can't even begin to express how much better Swype was and I would switch back to it in a heartbeat if they came back and updated it. The accuracy was way better, going back to previous words showed you the same alternate options so you could just keep going and go back to correct when you were done... And probably best of all, it gave more than just the three alternates so it was way rarer that it didn't have the word you were looking for. Even just typing this, I'm having to stop after pretty much every word to make sure it's giving me the right thing, which slows me way down.

Typing on phone could be so much better. It was so much better.
