  • Are you suggesting that we shouldn’t be worried about toxically insecure people in power when they are behaving awkwardly? Does an appearance of awkwardness grant automatic innocence?

I have been be intensely awkward with my insecurity in the past, and in my awkwardness i have definitely hurt people. If the victims of my insecurity brushed me off as awkward they would be enabling me to continue to harm others

  • When we can expect everyone on the planet to be present in a network the conflict and vitrol would be perpetual. We are not mature enough and all on the same page enough as a species to not resort to mud slinging

  • At the risk of sounding like i must be a cheater myself, are you suggesting that once someone cheats they are no longer a human worthy of empathy and nuanced consideration of circumstances?

  • I mean, who else was gonna do it?

  • Strictly speaking, you don’t. Several denominations tried to throw out the mysticism in the 60s to significant backlash of the congregations. Mainstream denominational seminaries are actually pretty open minded from what i hear.

The triune mysticism can be looked at as an act by many denominations, it can’t be dropped because not enough of us skeptics engage with the religious systems locally to justify changing theology. If official positions becoke “well the trinity isn’t actually…” they risk loosing significant numbers of members. Changing that requires skeptical people to earnestly engage with churches and their congregations.

  • I would like to subscribe to this level of rational social design

  • For as much as you seem to be opposed to being fucked over by your attitude, you sure seem to be bending over with your words

  • Yeah, but a cabinet of malintentioned competent adults can do so so much worse than a circus of malintentioned clowns

  • I, too, prefer the narrative where this is our problem to deal with and the consequences for our actions will be paid for by us.

Now i’m not so sure that narrative is true, but there is comfort and motivation to be found in knowing the world will go on without our shenanigans

  • Anger is fueled by love. My anger is fueled by a woefully irrational love for this country, my state, my city, my neighborhood, my friends, my family, the culture and beauty birthed by this nation, now being set ablaze to avoid facing the atrocities committed to build it. While i am not fond of the past, but i must embrace it and love it; and only once there is not even a memory left of this place i call home, will flame burn out

  • Apply this protest over generational periods of time, we end up in a world with way more people from the population that didn’t choose to abstain from procreation. All the assholes in charge have to do is maintain power for a generation or two and the population will be way more submissive over all

Angry people should be having angry babies

  • Yes, yes it is

  • I don’t know that i have the patience to do that more than once per person, i end up analyzing their thought patterns to sus out the root cause of the failure to adapt to new thinking. This kind of thing might be based on family culture or inappropriately reinforced assumptions about basic concepts that did not got caught by earlier educators. I will explore their cultural and family backgrounds to figure out how assumptions from there affect these failures to adapt to more dynamic environments.

A new model can be planted over inappropriate beliefs for the context of the new environment (here at work, generalizing is not only okay but necessary), and then it has to be reinforced over many months to keep the previously dominant mindset from reverting and help them build comfort with the new way of thinking.

The great part about this is that people who learn the adaptations this way will naturally teach others with the same maladaptions, and much more effectively. The terrible part is that it is slow and tedious and almost always includes religion or trauma

  • Are you arguing for or against mass incarceration?

  • Maybe he is insinuating that women are demons

  • I mean, the whole “startups are doing x” is really code for “venture dollars have been made available for entrepreneurs to explore x”. Startups these days are chasing fields which have investment dollars, so this means the rich are starting to invest in the tech a little more earnestly

  • I’m torn on how to approach this, i’m left with a couple of options:

    A) so Trump would somehow be even less self defeating?

    B) are you suggesting we should all spontaneously rise up and overthrow the military industrial complex?

    C) if you think this world view is self defeating then:

C.1) you owe some clarifying thoughts as to how you see a measured response to the existing democratic systems as self defeating

C.2) you appear to be making yourself out as someone who idealizes violence and oppression

C.3) you appear to be using contrarian language with the explicit purpose of dragging down the mood of the conversation. Quit that shit

  • That is hardcore wishful thinking, the nature by which critical digital infrastructure is developed and maintained is of keen importance to political systems everywhere. This situation was inevitable with the ongoing escalation of war

  • Are you lost? Lemmy is the pedantic wing
