  • I like the taste of sugar. Why do you hate other people's choice when they don't involve you? Seems like a weird thing to put that kind of investment in, and kind of a toxic thing to say.

  • So, I'm in my 40s, and have never really used noise cancellation. My brain has had all of the time in the world to learn how to do this. Instead, it chooses to amplify and focus on background noise.

Having a conversation in a noisy public space is literally just me doing my best to guess what you are saying at any given time. All I hear is a loud hiss of crowd noise.

  • And that deal had nothing to do with making allies. It was about selling seed and grain.

The point of it all is not to avoid dealing with bullies. That is not realistic. We are not in a position to do that. It's, rather, to ensure that we're not just a vassal state to a single bully, to be taken for granted.

It weakens the US position if we have other large markets to sell our shit to. It weakens China's position if we haave options beyond them. We don't make ourselves stronger by closing doors and hoping we lock ourselves in with the best bully, but ensuring there are a large number of open ones for us to escape through when things get abusive.

  • Everyone's seemingly got this fantasy of walking up to Homelander or Mr. Incredible, punching them in the face, and walking away triumphant to... something. Nobody jerks it to breaking their hand on the superpowered jaw and then getting a hole kicked through their chest, even if that's what would happen.

  • He keeps making threats, and then seems pissed off that we're acting like we believe him.

  • No, they're not "not sure", they're just cowards unwilling to voice their opinion because they know it's morally objectionable.

  • It's a lot harder to demand your government ID on a federated platform.

  • No, he signalled it last year. He just went on the world stage to reiterate it to those foreign entities.

  • It wasn't an example of a corrupt regime, though, but of a failed one. The soviet union failed to live up to the promise of workers uniting for collective ownership, and it was failing as a dictatorship. The sign in the window here is not pretending a corrupt regime wasn't corrupt, but that a crumbling regime wasn't crumbling.

The current world order has been crumbling for some time. No one on the world has been willing to say so. He turned around and said "let it".

  • I have a lower-mid-end OnePlus. It is decidedly meh. It's fine. It cost more than I wanted, has poor finger print reader placement, lacks induction charging, and never got the promised unlocked boot loaders, but it has the 3.5 mm headphone jack and microSD slot that I demanded from a phone.

    It sure is a phone.

  • Yes, exactly. Actions speak louder than words, of course, and his actions around fossil fuels feel very counter to his published words, but he has also said that we are at economic war now, and war time decisions need to be much more pragmatic than peace time ones.

He said it all today: Countries that cannot feed themselves, fuel themselves, or defend themselves are now supremely vulnerable. We can feed ourselves, and we can fuel ourselves, and we can fuel and feed others. We need to offer that so that they will defend us, as we build up the means to defend ourselves.

Shaking off being a US vassal state is going to get a little messy.

  • 66 per cent of respondents want Canada to remain an independent nation

Huh. The 33% implied in the text is weirdly double the 17% reported. Who are the delusional 16% who want to take over the country, but without using a word they can't pronounce or define?

  • I wish he was less of a, you know, investor capitalist, but his take on international relations is a wonder to behold. This speech basically boiled down to his election speeches, calling out the US, and telling the world that the Big Fish are nobody's friend, and that the rest of us need to partner up and stop competing with each other to simp for the Americans.

He basically declared that the American Empire is over, and we're done acting as a vassal state.

Fucking wild. I never thought I'd live to see the day.

  • Oh, that's actually the opposite of what the headline and article are talking about. It's discussing how companies who have started using AI - that is, become the "habitualized user" - aren't seeing any business benefits. Adding the real cost of use on top of that is going to make the decision a significant loss for these groups.

  • Could just go back to marking the new year in March, like Caesar intended.

  • The thing is, Trump isn't doing shit. It's very clear that Miller and the Heritage Foundation are at the helm here, and they do what they say they will do.

  • I worked there for five years. A lot of good, talented, passionate people there who had their ideas stepped on by Ubisoft corporate at every step of the way. The studio regularly received recognition from corporate, was trusted in taking over trainwreck projects from other studios, and with partnering with Ubisoft's flagship studios on their mobile games.

The only reasons to shutter the studio are A) corporate ruined every original project they tried to push forward, and B) they unionized.

  • Exactly. You vote for the Leopards Eating Peoples' Faces Party because you want to watch the leopards eating someone's face. You just never believe it will be your face.

  • Each of the small arrows are individually obvious.

    Pick the right one.
