  • Most new drugs aren't covered instantly after they are approved for use.

Like most burocracies it always takes time for the provinces to update their formulary.

  • It's not about controlling him, it's about keeping him pacified and distracted while you work on other things that get you out of the same room as him.

  • I would have just expected to read about specific sacrifices after reading the headline

This is mostly another pre-budget statement to try and reduce the level of shocked surprise when we see the actual budget.

  • schools mostly public except for a few private ones?

    About those exceptions...

Public money shouldn't be going to private schools.

If you want your kid to be in some elitist private school, you should pay the entire cost. Otherwise the public system is always an option.

Diverting public funds away from the public education system just weakens the public system.

  • There is a difference between "planning it to run for months" and "placing the order for months of advertising in advance".

Having worked in broadcasting, I can confidently say it is common for an ad buy to be modified multiple times during its run.

And the advertiser often doesn't order the entire run up-front. They will schedule it a week or 2 at a time and adjust based on what results they are seeing.

  • I don’t want trade with the US

    Most Canadians agree

But, because of how entwined our economies have become since WW1 (or earlier), it's not something that can be undone instantly.

  • there's so much misinformation among conservatives... They're obviously going for the headlines, and low information voters.

    As is tradition.

  • Disappointed that it's necessary to do.

But when you're forced to deal with a toddler carrying a live grenade, like it or not, you have to make some soothing noises once in a while.

  • A regularly updated laundry list.

The bastards seem to co-opt another previously innocent thing every damn week.

  • Switching to a different provider for those services would take two or three years

    Better get started, then.

No doubt there are some "low hanging fruit" that can be moved faster and easier than the larger and more complex deployments.

  • Wait until you find out how much contraband comes from the US.

Well, yeah, but now that we're trying to disentangle ourselves from them, why should we just jump straight into bed with an equally abusive new partner?

  • I don't see a problem if they use AI to assist with customer service. Spares the employees using their brain cells.

Except we both know the corporate bean counters will use AI as an excuse to reduce the number of employees to as close to zero as they think they can get away with.

  • the takeover of Canadian firms by American corporations, and the outsized influence of American multinationals on Canada's economy

This is a problem that has been in the making for generations.

That said, I'm glad to see we are finally starting to take some action to push back a bit.

  • In this case, the "lesser of 2 evils" still has a lot of blood on its hands.

Plus, there are a lot more than 2 options available to us. There is no need to go all-in with either China or the US.

  • As if that claim for damages won't be denied .

  • More to the point, seeing him get away with it allows other shitty people to expand what they expect to be able to also do without reprocussions.

  • It has been spreading quietly for decades.

Now that it's become emboldened by Trump's outrageous public behaviour we see eruptions of it everywhere.

  • Name a worse ambassador than this fucknut.

There are a few of them

  • He’d rather die in office

I can accept that outcome. The sooner the better.
