  • France has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the developed world, and this particular bit of nonsense (MMR is dangerous) is specifically linked to a British doctor who was trying to increase uptake on his “new” vaccines.

  • Dude, not really OK dropping slurs when you’re not really read up on this.

The data itself is highly questionable.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/fact-check-posts-claiming-40-110000305.html

In sum, an extensive search found that the two studies originating in the early 1990s were the only ones that shared a "40%" statistic purporting to reveal how many police officers admitted to being violent toward their partners. The Neidig study's results muddied the issue by including abuse perpetrated by the officers' spouses. The Johnson study applied an overly vague definition of violence.

Cops are bad, but bad data is also bad.

  • Gridiron. There’s also Rugby, Australian rules, and Canadian Rules Football. Most of the world plays association football.

  • People were voting against Dems for inflation that was largely from summer of 2022. Bear markets/recessions usually last 15 months.

If Trump keeps this stupid shit up for more than a week, the Republicans will have a bloodbath. Look no further than the elections of 1890.

  • “Young child in Mexico has novel influenza” was Swine Flu’s start. So I always get a little nervous reading about it.

The slightly better news is that compared to COVID, influenza sucks at spreading, so our non-pharmaceutical interventions are liable to stall it out pretty well.

  • The Canadian teen mutated to a human to human form, but she did not spread it forward.

It’s coming. We just keep rolling the dice.

  • The cocoa and swift runtimes are open source and the languages themselves are open source. The big pieces that are not are the window manager.

  • Salt, ice, and unsealed bottom bracket: creaking every 2-3 weeks!

  • Two ways of no padding for your saddle: material that gives (Brooks leather, rubber, etc) or you have a rock for a butt.

  • And yet: You’ll still be limited to two simultaneous calls to your REST API because the default HTTP client was built in the dumbest way possible.

  • I saw an ad request with an inline 1.4 MB game. Like, you could fit Mario in there.

  • No, he can be questioned about official acts. The wording is that the judiciary decides what is an official act, so if they decide it is, he cannot be punished criminally for what is otherwise a criminal act. The Supreme Court did a bunch of power grabs for itself and effectively declared that Congress couldn’t do squat other than impeachment against the president and the only check on the president’s power was whether the judiciary agreed with him.

Now Trump’s attacking the judiciary and has made the chief justice have to make a statement that his challenges to his legitimacy will not stand, so I would expect to see a bunch of cases go against Trump just as a judiciary show of force, much like his citizenship emergency challenge where they told him to fuck off and they’d slow walk his case.

Trump could have ended democracy quite easily if he wasn’t in such a damn hurry to get shit done and snubbing all of the power brokers that he needs to implement his plans is forcing a bunch of needless shit. When the economy is fully in shambles in a few months and the ad spend slows down for media companies, I’d expect them to pounce on how much shit he fucked up. It’s wild seeing WSJ realizing the problem that’s coming down the pipeline and the Murdoch rag shitting on him in the editorials rather than WaPo.

  • Regulatory capture would be my obvious. When businesses use the regulatory body that is supposed to regulate them to destroy any competition by making it so onerous to follow the regulations that unless you set up your business before the regulations were put into place, you can’t hope to enter the market, and then abuse consumers and the environment.

  • I got an argument about this particular one. They don’t seem to understand that there’s a difference between being malnourished leading to having a vitamin A deficiency causing immune system issues, and vaccines. They’re reading a study from more than a century going that fixing malnutrition lowered the death rate of measles and take a “If fixing vitamin A deficiency reduced deaths, you can just macro dose it and cure measles!” Which is absolutely stupid and did not pan out in future research and is, in fact, dangerous as well.

  • Advice

  • Speaking from my own personal mental health journey: Those bits of advice that didn’t work 5 years ago may work now. I couldn’t use mindfulness while my ADHD/C-PTSD was at its peak, but after working on a few other things, suddenly it became a useful tool even if I couldn’t use it for years and years. The advice was still good, but refusing to return to a tool because it didn’t immediately work in the past and getting frustrated and letting that frustration turn to anger doesn’t get me what I am looking for.

  • Biden kept good relations with the courts and local police departments, had judges working on asylum claims, and deported people who were found to have invalid claims.

Once Trump destroyed the asylum and revoked their status, the people already in the country weren’t just going to go turn themselves into ICE, and local judges basically told ICE to fuck off, so now they have to go hunt people down, and news spread fast that they almost certainly do not have valid warrants, so just ignore the fuckers and they’ll leave. We’re probably significantly undercounting border crossings now as they have no incentive to register and ICE is busy elsewhere.

Viola: They just made it damn near impossible to keep up the numbers Biden had. Biden’s plan was to increases asylum judges so they could process the claims directly at the border. Trump thought Americans would just turn all the brown people in… Somehow.
