  • Aoostar makes some really great tiny NAS devices based on the Intel N100/N150 series, and they also have an AMD unit if that's your jam (it's mine). If you buy the one with built in main storage it comes with Windows 11 Pro installed but you can wipe that and install Linux or a dedicated NAS OS if you wish. Or just save money and throw a NVMe SSD in for the OS and a bunch of HDDs for media and go to town.

    I also like UGREEN's NAS offerings, they come with their own custom NAS OS that supports Docker so you can run all your *arrs and Jellyfin and other server apps as containers. The web-based interface is like using a normal Linux or macOS desktop.

  • Apple has already said they can scan your device, using on-device hardware and software, for CSAM and report that to the FBI. Yes, CSAM is bad and shouldn't exist, but today it's just CSAM that's illegal and reported, tomorrow it will be the fact that one is LGBTQ+ or anti-fascist. They said they decided not to do it, but can you really trust them?

    No amount of E2E encryption will protect you from an on-device spy that can scan and upload what is sitting on your phone every time you unlock it and therefore decrypt it. Your data has to be decrypted for you to interact with it, E2E only protects you when your device is in your adversary's hands.

    From your other posts you seem to be knowledgeable about security and privacy, how is it that you are turning a blind eye to this well known "feature" of Apple devices and just trusting their word that it isn't enabled? Why are you so bent on propping up Apple as a secure platform when it's so glaringly obvious they can't be trusted with your data?

  • Yes and there is an issue started on the gitlab for Fennec (which ironically I can't pull up right now to give you the link because it's hanging due to this bug).

    There is a workaround that works for me, go to your settings within Fennec and turn on "Delete browsing data on quit" and only turn on the "cached images and files" so you don't lose saved logins and history. This will enable an "exit" option in the menu which fully closes the app and usually fixes the issue.

  • I could swear I read it exactly that way, but looking back I don't see it, perhaps I inferred it from this:

    My setup uses sabnzbd integrated with Lidarr for handling downloads of content I've purchased.

    To be clear, Lidarr/Sabnzbd can ONLY download from Usenet, which (as far as I know) is not an authorized download channel for any legally purchased media. I get what he's saying, that he buys the music from a legit source and then downloads it from Usenet for simplicity and automation's sake (which is exactly what I do as well), but the inference appeared to be that he was somehow pointing Lidarr/Sabnzbd at Bandcamp directly.

  • I understand the author's intent to support artists by purchasing their music on various platforms, but by using Sabnzbd to download music from Usenet, this is essentially a guide to pirate music. The only thing in this setup that isn't automated is purchasing the albums, and at one point the author says he uses Sabnzbd to download from Bandcamp. No, he doesn't, that's impossible; Sabnzbd is a Usenet client and nothing more.

    I applaud the author for trying to be honest and support his favorite artists with legal purchases to justify his use of these apps, and it's a great setup. But let's not pretend that most people following this guide will actually legally purchase any music they download once they see how seamless and fun it is to pirate it.

    And I say all of that as someone who has a similar setup with Lidarr and Sabnzbd, I am not judging anyone who chooses to pirate music. And I do purchase actual physical albums of some of the music I download so I can support my favorite artists. I just wanted to call out the author for being a bit disingenuous about his setup.
