  • While I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, it’s amazing how self-destructive this is. Greta is an internationally famous activist. Flagrantly violating and abusing a person with world renown - along with dozens of other activists - is a radically stupid way to hasten international isolation.

    You'd be correct most of the time, but this is Israel we are talking about. They know there won't be any consequences because claiming they did something wrong must mean you're a nazi, and even if you get over that, daddy USA is there to protect them anyway.

    Israel could livestream a soldier killing Greta and they would face no consequences whatsoever.

  • There are classical, "best of all time", titles that an anime lover like you would defintely enjoy. They're not available on Crunchyroll, they're not on Amazon Prime, Netflix, you can't purchase a copy. A few had selected censored releases in VHS, good luck hunting them down.

    The thing with piracy is that it's not just a money saving trick used by teenagers, it's also the only way to truly watch the media you enjoy regardless of what some media conglomerate thinks - they no longer get to define how, when and what you're going to watch. You have to do a bit of setup once... yes that sucks, but from that point onwards, you're free.

  • Sociologists love making that claim, but it's not true.

    A long childhood followed by extremely experimental puberty is indeed a biological feature of our species.

    There have been societies that suppressed childhood due to labor needs, but that came after many more had thrived respecting it.

    Modern childhood is indeed new... Compared to western European tradition, not to our species as a whole.

  • No worries! I never found a true alternative to MusicBee, and there are several outdated tutorials about getting it run on Wine that technically work but leave you with a buggy app. The method I showed you works perfectly.

  • MusicBee works perfectly via Wine, and it's a major part of my digital library. Without MusicBee my MP3 player would be worth 1/10 for me.

    But you can't just take the installer and double click it, you need to follow these steps (naturally replace the directories):

    Install Wine Staging and Winetricks

    Create prefix for MusicBee and .NET

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/ wineboot –init

    Install .NET 4.0 and corefonts

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/ winetricks --force dotnet40 corefonts

    Install xmllite and gdiplus

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/ winetricks xmllite gdiplus

     Set Wine to Windows 7 compatibility mode

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/ winetricks win7

    Install .NET 4.8

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/  wine $HOME/Downloads/ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe /q

    Install Music Bee

    Bash:

    WINEPREFIX=/home/kadupse/Wine/MusicBee/  wine $HOME/Downloads/MusicBeeSetup_3_6.exe

    Downloads needed:This specific version of the .NET Framework installer

    You might see warnings about WoW64 mode, experimental flags, etc, just ignore them and keep going and MusicBee will work.

  • Capitalism isn't bad. It's what humans do with them that is bad. Don't be a greedy dick and they would all work fine.

    Capitalism demands greed and infinite growth in a finite and resource-limited world. It's inherently contradictory, regardless of your ethics.

  • A famous alt-right politician in Brazil was in a podcast once and said the quiet part out loud. He's one of the main "next generation right wing" representatives and he said, live:

    "... you know we are lucky the average Brazilian is too dumb, if they started reading and thinking they'd vote for the left, God blessed us with this idiocy"

    His voters couldn't parse this sentence and understand what he is saying.

  • I'll just sigh and move on, not worth getting stressed out over a dumb reply online

  • Ah yes, great analogy. My computer with the operating system I installed and the files I own and want to modify certainly is the same as going to some strangers apartment and trying to buy it.

    We don't want to invade the privacy of... the software... right?

  • The set of primes and the set of integers have the same size, you can map a prime to every integer.

  • I don't understand why society accepted that the hardware maker gets to decide what software you run.

    That'd be like your car deciding which roads you can take, or your blender deciding you're not allowed to use strawberries in your smoothie.

    Are you nuts? Why the fuck would your phone decide which apps you can run?

  • I've generally found gnome users just use it

    lol

  • The first public demo of Siri back when the iPhone 4S launched is more impressive than most AI commercials.

  • AI is getting billions in investment. Every single company out there is pushing employees to use it. Most brands have OKRs of shoving AI into their services.

    And yet a chat box, removing objects in pictures or generating mediocre images is all they ever achieve.

    Nobody goes beyond that. It's always the same as ChatGPT but with a modified system prompt. It's always image generation. Oh look we spent half of the quarter's budget but now our website displays an AI generated summary on top of the already easy to read information!

    Which to me is irrefutable proof that AI is a useless money sink. Every company out there battling to grab your attention with AI, billions of dollars, market pressure and it's still useless?

  • People love complaining about some random obscure feature only they and 4 others use being """hidden""" in Dolphin which usually just means it's not a default button taking up half the UI, but can be added in ten seconds by using the toolbar customization features.

  • Okular is the best PDF software for Windows, beating Adobe's own solution.

  • Wouldn't really matter in a federated network like this. Mods banned you from a community? Make a new one. Account banned? Move to another instance.

    There's zero reason to feel attached to online accounts like these, which is the only thing you can lose on Lemmy.
