Hmmm, I'm hosting my matrix server for years with federation and never had this problem. The only spam I get is via the telegram bridge. Maybe it's a problem for bigger instances?! On mine are only ppl I have immediate contact with.

Just tested it for Instagram, because I get a lot of that annoying BS. Unfortunately not a single instance is working for me. But afaik I might be able to soon up my own frontend instance and add it to the extension. Will check that out when I get bored.
