  • I hired an accountant to do my taxes this year and her company had just switched to Libre Office and she, a boomer, could t figure out how to open a fucking CSV with it. She kept complaining about it just being a string of numbers and letters.

I resorted to providing her with PDFs instead.

  • Oh look, someone that doesn’t understand autism. Cool.

Might be a good idea to stop talking rather than keep shoving your foot farther and farther in your mouth.

For the record, ‘spectrum’ doesn’t mean it’s a linear increase in symptoms. It means it can be any unique blend of symptoms, some of which can allow a person to be very independent while still being cripplingly unable to manage some tasks or activities.

  • Fuck yea

  • Fuck yea.

  • I wonder what all the headline could have said he’s been in contact with. His wife? Car? A BLT? 3 children in a trench coat?

  • I struggled with this a lot when I got a roommate last year that’s paying rent.

I’ve come to terms with it recognizing that we are supporting each other. I’m supporting them by providing them a stable and affordable place to live, and they’re supporting me by helping me make ends meet, especially in a time when I’m unemployed. I’m not profiting off of them or taking a living space from another family. I also plan to calculate the portion of equity they contribute to the mortgage and give it to them whenever I wind up selling.

  • I’ve always appreciated people who rent out rooms or expand their homes to let people rent a private space with airbnb.

I also don’t think VRBO, home away, house trip, and other companies that support this business model get enough visibility in the criticism against the model.

  • No this totally makes sense to me.

It doesn’t impact my experience of the story, but there is something to having the next page hidden behind the turn and knowing that it’s right there. When I read an ebook it’s like reading an article. The sensation is different and it loses a touch of excitement without that tactile feeling of ‘the next page’. Pages don’t matter in ebooks either. You adjust the text size and the ‘page’ count is suddenly radically different. I measure my progress in chapters or percentages now.

It makes sense to me why that wouldn’t work for some folks.

  • I only read fiction, so I always buy it pirate ebooks unless there’s a special edition of something that I am really excited about. I’ve bought all of Brandon Sanderson’s mystery novels in hardcover for example, and I buy the Stormlight books hardcover as well. I’d love to have the entire cosmere in hardcover, or better yet their special edition leather bound hardcovers (for the ones he’s done it with), but it’s just too expansive and expensive to justify.

In an ideal world, a physical copy includes a digital copy.

  • I’ve got the hardcover for his new mystery novel ordered. Can’t wait for it to arrive and to read it.

  • I’m a different person, but it’s the first time I’ve heard the term used. /shrug

  • Reflection on history. I don’t see that as an inherently negative thing even though it would ostensibly exclude me.

Do projects that drive us to consider the plights of slaves, Jews in the holocaust, or other groups that were tortured, murdered, or otherwise persecuted en masse elicit this same response to you? If not, why?

It seems to me that the art is doing what it’s intended to do, illicit a reaction. What you do with that reaction, positive or negative, is up to you.

  • I don’t see it as revenge, I see it as reflection.

  • 2 hours is a lot, but some folks do have conditions that make pooping take longer. I’m one of those people and it was always aggravating as fuck getting in trouble for pooping. I ended up just holding it all day for the most part even when it became painful.

  • A lithium battery needs a charging pattern that reduces voltage as it gets closer to full. And overcharging a lithium battery gets real spicy real quick. You also don’t want to charge them too fast because spicy.

Nicad and nimh batteries (I erroneously said alkaline above) don’t, you just blast it with a steady voltage until it’s done, with some nuance for nimh that’s not worth diving into here.

  • Yea, one might be alkaline nimh while the other is lithium. Or maybe even just different flavors of lithium.

  • Have you considered a NUC?

  • Of course he doesn’t. The man doesn’t know shit.

  • Lmao I love it. That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing!
