I've been sending Gnome €10 a month for 5 years now, ever since I switched full time from Mac OS. I also make one-off donations to other projects, particularly apps that I like with small userbases.
Ever since Guido stepped down I'm glad I rowed in behind Python. I like the guy, but the leadership there now has just been unimpeachable on issues like this, same with the local chapter in my country.
The battery "exploding" is a secondary concern. If the battery swells in a laptop I am not in any immediate danger. If it swells on a ring it can lead to it being trapped on my finger and potentially causing loss of the digit. I also wouldn't want to risk a ring catching fire in the process of trying to remove it after it swells.
I used to skin Windows XP and loved custom icon packs for OS X. Today I run Gnome with the bare minimum quality of life extensions.
I was going to say I don't have time to mess around with that shit, and then remembered I have spent a bunch of time curating my dotfiles and the actual OS I run is a Bootc image I build nightly on my self hosted Forgejo instance. I may actually have too much time on my hands 😅
I've just realised I've completely stopped checking mine since switching to an EV. I can go a couple of months without even stopping at a service station, so the old habit is broken.
Edit: For the confused people replying to me, we don't call them gas stations outside of North America. We call them service stations or petrol stations.
I'm sure we do dumb things too, but calling a liquid "gas" is fucking comical btw 😆
I'm not sure if it's the potato quality, the lighting or the controller is just that dirty. Keeping your (no longer in production) controller relatively clean can help with its longevity!
Bro did you see the shirt?
