  • The mere presence of a cop, even without a visible weapon, will escalate any situation regarding mentally unstable people. Period.

If you don't understand why a person going through a crisis would freak out when a figure of (ultimately violent) power appears right after they picked a weapon you have a serious problem with basic empathy.

For the record, I haven't had any bad experiences with cops, in fact every interaction I've had so far has been either neutral or actually pretty nice. I've had my fair share of breakdowns as a teenager tho, and I can assure you that a cop would've never helped a single time. Even the nicest one.

  • Bonus step) Call the cops over the previous cop's mental health

    /s

  • Wait are you implying that regulating fire arms in USA would help to deal with human traffic and drugs from mexico?

I mean it makes sense, but doesn't certain people hate mexicans and like guns a bit too much? Are they using their brains at all?

  • Toggling on data collection without informing the user would mean billions of dollars worth of fines in Europe, so I doubt that happens regularly.

More like a few thousand euros symbolic fine and an angry letter saying "don't be an ass again pls our infrastructure depends on you" after years of blatant abuses and anti-consumer practices, followed by an ambiguous law (with positive effects affecting only european users) they will definitely not manage to circumvent withing the next week and a half. Not this time 🤡.

The problem here is the fact that most people just do not give a fuck about this; that's why there's no coverage in the (mainstream) media, why the only people who cares end up just leaving windows and why this kind of options are usually opt-out and they can actually afford to silently re-enable them cuz who's gonna check anyways? Random people ranting on meme communities about my fancy malware?

  • Everything is open source for this guy after using this simple trick. Big techs HATE him!

  • Tacos.

    Jump
  • I really think jesus would've agreed tho. The guy didn't discriminate even abolute assholes, why do you think tacos would be crossing the line?

  • My god i shouldn't have read the thread you crossposted from

    Glorious ship btw

  • Damn... I swear no one will ever see me again after my 65th birthday, I'll be on the beach, probably knitting till I die

  • If they require at least a 71yo, assuming the person started working at 16 and has dedicated their entire life to develop software without ever touching management positions, ... At what age does people retire in that country??

  • That's why I said the post didn't feel appropriate to me, dragging this topic only makes it worse for everyone (even the poor ewoks), then some people started to misinterpret (some in clear bad faith) my statement and bring more hate 🙃

I'm tired of the internet, even asking for peace brings controversy nowadays...

  • It would be interesting tho to use a LLM to spot AI/SEO crap and add whole domains to a search blacklist. In that case we wouldn't need AI to do the actual search, and this could easily just be a database for end users by the SE's side (kinda like explicit content filters).

I'd call that option "Bullspam filter" and leave it on "moderate" by default.

  • Not true because we're getting the same experience whether we pay or not. The same kinda goes for google, they have other services you could pay to support them (please don't), and it won't make the search engine better. Big difference is one of them is actually free (full meaning of the word) and the other one is just usable without paying.

You're still using a free platform to say good free software is not a thing tho, kinda weird.

  • Doesn't mean the statement is less true, the enshitification of google is a symptom, the disease is the internet as a whole. Google and LLMs screwing the web, M$ screwing windows, Apple's existence by itself, Meta monopolizing and screwing social media, and don't get me started with streaming platforms and other media industries are all symtoms.

Considering all of that, yes, the internet enshitification is very real.

  • If you're going through that route, SearX beats everything and it's not even close. It's self hosted and takes search results from any engine you check in a config, different config for search categories, ... Rn I'm mostly getting results from brave, qwant, and duckduck. Gotta acknowledge the bing copilot tho, it's pretty decent, but requires to use edge or bing app in android, so i only use it when I'm lazy or I'm searching for something too obscure for searx.

  • A version with different distros would be nice. I want to see blood here.

  • Who said anything about torrenting something illegal 👀

As far as I'm concerned, everything i discuss here is for educational purposes only and even if you share info about "your" setup, it's just hypothetical. Not your fault if someone you totally don't know has the same setup you described and uses it for illegal activities.

  • Same for plasma, global clipboard is just more convenient
