  • Probably something to do with the great depression and needing to make cheap foods interesting

Something to do with women having to make things look less lazy/not just serving ready made things, and like they put work into making food in the post ww1 period. Recipe books tended to have the crazier stuff trying to get you to use more of their other products

  • What kind of emails are you sending to what kind of people, and how frequently that AI increases your productivity? I don't think I ever have emails that AI could do better or faster, since it'd probably take longer to explain to the AI what I need it to write than to type it out myself. Then again I'm in an engineering setting and it's pretty much just numbers, confirmations, basic requests, and issue descriptions, IT tickets, mostly

  • I have more than once found a post my exact problem with an exact solution and sources, only to go back and realize it was my own post from n years back

  • Check out Technology Connection's videos; informative and entertaining

  • They're common in vending machines, libraries, ticket machines for bus/train, etc. as change because they're easier to distribute than single dollar bills by a machine

  • It seems the pallet went through the building they were in, in a residential area of a refugee camp. They probably didn't even see it

  • One of the problems with large scale algae farming afaik is the algae getting contaminated by other algal species that are toxic and outcompete the edible algae. I'd like to see the solutions to that issue

  • Usually case studies and smaller studies like that help to inform hypotheses and gather information about potential issues or confounding variables before running larger or full scale experiments. They're also cheaper and can help with garnering interest and investment

  • I rarely blocked people on reddit but the pool is much smaller here so you tend to run into the same troll repeatedly or they spam throughout ansingle thread

Ive taken to just reporting and blocking left and right because i dont have the mental bandwidth to spend on someone who is looking for fights and not legitimate arguments

  • I think he forgets that being a foreigner might make you more privy to news that a country's own news might not run or might skew, but doesn't give them any perspective on what the people believe or why they believe it. Especially when he is looking at media and taking joe schmoes "america is a failed state" statements as what the majority of people believe. The majority of americans support progressive actions, but a combination of regulatory capture and corrupt politicians who aren't representative of a majority of their voters means that political decisions made don't align with what the people want. Besides that the amount of people going "she doesn't know real corruption because she doesn't live in south africa, look at her fancy house" is stupid as fuck. Most americans live paycheck to paycheck and are one inconvenience away from losing their job or being evicted or losing their home. Even if she does live in a nice house, it does not invalidate what she has to say. While some of this video is true it just sounds like some ivory tower bullshit.

Besides that, painting the democrats and republicans as the same is completely disingenuous. Republicans use doom gloom and fear to get people to vote for them and then cause the very problems they pretended were the democrats fault. The democrats use fear of the republicans getting power and then do next to nothing when in office but concede and settle somewhere in the middle with the republicans. They don't cause the problems but they do very little to fix them.

  • History wise

195 was a college dorm of a few friends who made a reddit sub to share memes with each other

Over time the sub grew really fast and became a major shitposting sub. I dont remember if it was while 196 was still around or after it shut down, but r/196 was made and became pro lgbt while 195 was kinda a cesspool. The guy running 195 shut it down because they were no longer dorming together or talking, and it was becoming hard to manage a huge sub alone with so many people posting hateful crap

196 became the weird trans femboy lgbt shitpost sub

197 popped up because people didnt like the lgbt stuff and it kinda became more like 195

196 moved here but a lot of people jumping to lemmy havent actually interacted with 196 before do theyre just posting whatever whenever
