  • Of course, algorithms! The answer was right there all along!

  • I think you're getting downvotes because you're projecting a narrative onto @Reyali and using quotes around non-quotes. They didn't say they were "probably not right."

I agree, everyone should be skeptical of information someone else is sharing, because we can't assume intention. But what would motivate someone to say "I'm probably not right" anyway?

What's interesting to me is that for you, your guard went up for someone admitting a potential of having missed something, which may make you more susceptible to people who are confidently wrong.

Most others' reaction is the opposite, taking their statement as an attempt to be genuine and open to feedback. If someone invites feedback, is willing to admit they might be wrong, that's a much better starting point for conversation.

  • Yep, that's what the linked articles' conclusion was. But 80dB vs 120dB is a huge difference, jackhammer compared to a dishwasher. Anyway, I'm out of my depth, I shot a bow last 30 years ago. And never as a stealthy assassin nor archery-based superhero.

  • According to un-sourced Archery Heaven, regular crossbows are as loud as a lawnmower, nevermind repeating. Not quite the stealth you might be looking for.

  • Finally, a religion that makes sense.

  • These world class athletes are just better and stronger than us, so they can totally tolerate 5x the safe level. Maybe even 10x! It may be true that we don't know how many times more they can take! A million? These are important questions that we must answer.

  • It definitely stands out, maybe as our vernacular has shifted so far to hyperbole, that every statement is "slamming, blasting, annihilating".

  • All my KPIs are saying this is a win.

  • Gotta love the mindset "if I can't have it, no one can!"

  • I'm a silly goose with young kids and I've been head-in-the-sand trying to deal with my own survival. Once I had an iota of stability, I started to let the outside world in again and often wish I hadn't.

I estimate I live in a place least likely to be dramatically affected by climate change, early on. It's not like I'm in Florida and can't afford to insure my home any longer because of hurricane risk. It's not like I'm likely to be one of the 1.2 billion climate refugees by 2050.

So I try to take little steps to get prepared for something I never thought I'd need to be prepared for. We're growing more and more of our own food, we're expanding our water/food stores and storage. We plan to get a solar system soon (so we're the 1/10 that makes it through an extended grid outage), while global supply chains still function.

I've started a little (20TB) apocalypse library, full of illustrated guides, youtube videos, books, and resources.

My biggest stumbling block is starting community. I generally don't like people and as you've seen in this thread, most people don't take climate change seriously.

And, as someone else said... weed and time in nature.

  • Just that they have to decide to hand themselves over and that seems unlikely.

  • OK don't lynch me, but has anyone tried on Docker for Windows? Since this is Linux first, it looks like a lot of the environment paths are Linux-only. It solves a need for me, but I haven't dived into switching fully to Linux gaming.

  • I've become so cynical that I fear for the 2nd officers life for not having the other guy's back. Hope there are no training accidents.

  • I'm seeding 5TB of Anna's - all I did was say how much data I could take and the site made a pack of torrents that needed help. It's the least I can do for all the knowledge I've benefited from.

  • I'm trying to connect the dots... are you implying that MAGA is harmful to entrenched business interests?

  • You're not a smooth brain if you don't know something, you're a smooth brain if you don't learn something.

  • The climate change slogan that works: "Yeet the heat!"
