  • I'd like to make a counter point to this. I'm an enthusiast and I want an immutable server. Currently, I've got perfectly running systems but switching from fedora to coreos wouldn't change much in my workflow but updates happen in the background and it's slightly more "unbreakable". Almost everything is containerized anyway

  • I have no experience in this and I feel bad for questioning the tls results but I do not understand why it would matter that much. Could it be that there's something else going on? Especially comparing debian with debian in a container

  • Nvidia shield is incredibly old. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just that I don't want to buy an electric device that has been developed "10" years ago and could be replaced next year

  • I like Projects that provide an IBAN. I don't want to pay 3% to paypal or stripe just to donate to a FOSS project.

  • That's cool but as soon as there are such kind of bounties, there is an incentive to hold back any useful and wanted features to keep the money flowing. It's a double edged sword

  • When do you guys outgrow mint?

I like fedora's defaults (which are very different to ubuntu/mints) and I'd still recommend it to a seasoned linux user. (I use opensuse aeon btw, but I wouldn't recommend it to starters)

Why is mint only for starters? When do you reach the point where you outgrow it?

  • I just got around to look at it and my first step was to checkout nextcloud integration.

To me, it's unfortunate that it does not use nextclouds caldav but it uses webdsv to store the data in a folder. That makes it incompatible to all my other apps using caldav

  • Why is wallrizz the problem?

    Wallrizz

    • has a topic related name
    • unique new logo
    • uses ai in a useful way
    • expresses art
    • provides stuff to theme your distro
    • has a unique branding
    • is inclusive
  • Ahh, I didn't see that! Sorry 👻

  • Did you test it?

  • I didn't read that between the lines.

I just read that people should spend time with open source. For me, that includes wikipedia, osm, bug reporting, etc.

Imo, it would be nice if there was at least some introduction to this world to anyone (in school). There's no harm in getting to know this world.

  • I like the idea and I like that she's sharing it.

  • Gpl doesn't prevent monetisation/commercialisation. Many popular devs just choose not to.

You can also dual license, providing another license for companies that wish not to publish their code for a goal project.

I don't comprehend your reasoning of MIT projects staying free from corporate influence. There are lots of MIT projects that are carried by companies.

  • Dual boot is not for beginners. There are so many problems that can arise. I'd never recommend that to a newbie.

Besides, theres no linux distro with an exe. Only appimages if you want to count that as exe.

On traditional and atomic fedora, you can use the software gui for installing apps. What are you missing?

  • Like osmand or comaps?

  • I like paperwm or niri

  • That's weird.
