3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Advice for nylon/PA warped prints not sticking?English
3·3 days agoSome people print things at an angle I’ve heard. Uses more support material though
The FGC 9, for example, has a barrel that one can electro-chemically machine with 3d printed jigs, wire, salt water, hydraulic pipe, and a 12v battery

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Instead of tolerating gun control, why not arm and organize labor-union militias?
1·4 days agoLabor unions leverage their labor in negotiations. I’m all for people being armed, but not for those types of negotiations.

5·5 days ago12GB is a lot of ram. By small local models I am talking about fine tuning something like < 2GB LLM

80·6 days agoWhy can’t they just fine tune a small locally hosted model? Are they dumb?
Most gamers have a GPU anyways

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Transparent, sweet, handsome, but lowkey chaotic guy I've been on a few dates with - stay or run?? I'm confused and appreciate any advice!
91·6 days agoThat’s just my opinion though. I have just heard too many stories about things going VERY badly when addiction and hard drugs are involved and personally I plan on steering clear of all that in my life

325·6 days agoUse of hard narcotics is a red flag for me, personally. And substance abuse in general as well. No offense to those struggling, but it kinda shows a lack of self control and disregard for safety.

4·8 days agoOne thing that is never really illustrated in movies is how loud pistols are too. Shoot a pistol without ear protection and your ears can ring for hours or weeks depending on caliber and barrel length.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Broadly speaking, what is your current take on AI?
22·8 days agoI think LLMs are useful for some things, but not as useful as people think overall.
I suspect the major LLMs will follow the enshittification trend, prices will go up, and people will abandon them for smaller open weight models
You could travel so fast

cats@lemmy.world•Told my buddy the best part about staying at a hotel is getting out of the shower and not having crap stick to your feet.
9·9 days agoI do as well and I just keep a little broom in my bathroom right next to the litter box
I suppose it is a mixture, of both work and coworkers.
I like trying to “perfect my craft”. But also, I like spending time with my coworkers and getting to brainstorm and chat with them.
That being said I am also very fortunate to only have to work 36hrs per week. Pay is less than full time, but it can also just eat out less

Ask@piefed.social•Please ELI5 the arguments people use to claim it's possible to use AI/LLMs ethically, locally, openly etc.English
111·10 days agoI think it’s at least way more ethical to use locally hosted open weight AI. Mostly because a lot of these models are usually fine tuned and distilled to run on a single GPU and that is the direction the technology needs to develop to be sustainable.
Obviously for most things it’s way more ethical to just not use AI or LLMs.
I think people should at least experiment with running local models on their own hardware. It really puts it into perspective how much compute they use. Like the power, speed, and performance ratios of different size LLM and how absurd anything involving generating video is. I have a pretty beefy gaming PC and it took it like 6 minutes to generate 10 seconds of 720p video. And then that time goes up exponentially past 10 seconds. Like 20 minutes for a 15 second video
Running on a small model is basically like playing a modern full sized video game. When I measure my PC with a power meter
Not trying to be sarcastic, but do you not find joy in your work? I’ll ask for more work too when I run out of things to do as well.
I just like electronics and stuff though. And the boring/tedious parts of my job I think it is at least fun to try to automate or streamline them with python or other tools
You guys have free time at work? Kinda curious what you all do?
I am and Electrical Engineer and am usually busy all day. Sometimes I’ll head home a few hours early if i hit my hours for for the week or if I have to “hurry up and wait”
And Frodo doesn’t know Legolas’ name

Photography@piefed.social•Picture-sharing platform Pixelfed — "the federated Instagram alternative" — now using AIEnglish
3·17 days agoI’m still going to recommend Pixelfed to people. It is open source and federated and still the best option at getting people off meta in my opinion
I have a new motorola razr.
Mainly I just think it is neat, but I do like the little screen on the outside. Ive actually noticed my screentime has decreased a lot. Its something about that extra step of opening it up and being able to handle little things on the small exterior screen.
I like how it fits in my pocket when folded compared to a normal phone
Another small thing is that I can set it up half folded to hold my flashlight while working or act as a camera tripod.
Battery is really good too. I’m not sure if it can just fit more battery or if the small exterior screen limits battery usage when closed, or both.

Are these AI decompiled games any good? I heard the Adobe ones looked good but we’re actually really slow and buggy
