  • I'll begin by confessing that I also tend to apply philosophies situationally, but I'd be curious how you'd respond to the criticism that such an approach sort of gives away the game that philosophical applications are all post hoc rationalizations for our existing, non-rational preferences. I've found that to be the strongest criticism of such an approach.

  • Trump doesn't care if he's smart or not. Trump traded dropping out of the race and endorsing himself in exchange for HHS. Purely a political transaction.

  • I think you should stop writing post titles

  • Maybe the Amish were on to something.

  • I bet Chicago could use Bernie in the next couple weeks. Maybe dust off the old civil disobedience.

  • Volunteer work is also a good option.

  • sheepishly raises hand

  • I always read the article and this is no exception. Do you have anything to add to the conversation besides snarky assumptions?

  • I suppose when the author says AI they mean LLMs. The machine learning models that, say, interpret mammograms don't have nearly the same issues, and I'd hate to see them all thrown on the pyre together.

  • Can't be sad in fall. Only melancholy

  • Yeah it's not a miracle, but it's probably useful. I find the most common scenario for when the LLM wasted my time was when I was asking it how to do something which can't be done. Like I would ask it how to use library X to do operation Y, where in truth library X doesn't support operation Y. Rather than responding that I should find a different library, it would just make up some functions or parameters. When it works well, it's faster than hunting down the docs or finding examples/tutorials.

  • Get an EV. Get a garage charger. Put panels on your roof. The future is now!

  • I'd be interested in some proper studies, but most of the devs I know, myself included, use it for reference at least. Haven't met a vibe coder yet though.

  • No mortgage. No insurance. Should have got a cave.

  • It boggles the mind to argue that because the president is charged with faithfully executing the law there can't be a law that limits a president's authority to arbitrarily fire officials. All of these protected positions can be removed for cause. If these officials are not faithfully executing their duties in accordance with the law, that would be cause to remove them!

  • Good advice. I was actually thinking simply about being the center of the global economy and how that typically makes a nation a superpower. Technological espionage is a whole other issue.

  • Does Riker's bent knee or that toe point the hour? I guess you could set it either way...

  • I do not think the world will like a century dominated by the CCP quite so well as it likes rapid decarbonization, but I guess we take what we can get .
