Too many weirdos peeing in your favorite car, harassing other passengers, stinking, and listening to their music full blast on their portable speakers for it to be my favorite car.
Yeah that was gonna be my question: does Italy not have any legal mechanism in place that would be the functional equivalent of the US's supremacy clause?
Like...not saying shit like this isn't attempted all the time in deeply conservative areas of the US, but in most cases where the far right leadership has even a shred of strategic thinking, they often don't even attempt to pass or enforce laws like this because it'll trigger immediate challenge in the courts, the challenge will be 100% taken up and the decision will come down against them (since even in a conservative court, the only thing they hate more than ruling in favor of "liberal" causes is any ruling that would limit the court's power in the future), and at that point there's a permanent legal precedent in the books, against the repression they'd like to carry out.
The Linux proselytizing combined with the rabid impractical political hive mind have combined to slowly take my usage of Lemmy from "increasing and replacing Reddit time" to "flattened out, going back to Reddit a bit" and now it's moving solidly into the territory of "definitely using and visiting Lemmy less, spending more time back on Reddit".
This platform has so much potential, but the community sucks. Which is saying something, given that the chief comparison is the reddit community.
I bet you'll sleep easier tonight knowing that your computing decisions are deemed to be acceptable by some rando on the Internet according to their standards.
Eh I'm glad that's for you and you're happy, and I know Lemmy might as well be the Linux fan club, but for me personally?
I've tried to switch to Linux on 2 occasions in the past (mid to late 00s and again in the mid 20-teens) and both times I found the conversion process tedious, the experience within the system to be one that felt like I was constantly fighting the system to accomplish my goals, and ultimately after giving it a few months each time, was absolutely relieved and delighted to finally give it up and go back to Windows each time. I tried at least 4 different flavors as well, so I don't think it was so much that I just happened to not like one specific software, but rather that my primary annoyance was that I just wanted Windows and none of the Linux substitutes were it.
I'm sure a lot of that is simply being used to Windows after using it since the early to mid 90s, and I'm not saying Windows is perfect by any means...but for me at least, even a slightly annoying Windows experience will remain preferable to me over a third attempt to switch to Linux for the foreseeable future.
A friend of my parents desperately wanted one of the new Broncos, and they were just selling out everywhere, so they decided to work with the small local dealership and order one direct from Ford.
So they picked out every last detail, placed the deposit, and waited.
It was like 5 or 6 months then they finally got the call to come down, it was ready.
Well when they got there, the fucking piece of shit dealer tells them that he's increasing the price by 10k.
They ask why and what happened to the price they agreed on, and the guy tells them that basically these kinds of customer orders are the only way he can get more broncos from Ford, but he knows he can get more for this one so he's going back on their agreement. So they can either agree to the higher price right now, or go home empty handed and he will still sell it within the week.
I don't know how they walked out of that place not in handcuffs, because I'd have assaulted the guy.
They get home and call up Ford and Ford basically said, "Sorry you had to go through that, but we have no control over our dealers, so they can do that and neither you nor we have any recourse or any way around it."
Basically that story alone meant to me that A. I'll never drive a Ford, and 2. I will badmouth that little locally owned dealership any time anyone I know is considering using them, and I hope they go under.
The thing is, Ford can control that shit, they just have no desire or motivation to do so. Contrast that story with Subaru. Post pandemic when car prices were insane and demand was through the roof, Subaru of America mandated that all their dealers were not too MSRP on any new Subaru vehicles. If they found any dealership price gouging, they got one warning, then SoA pulled their fucking license to sell the brand.
Musk's "free speech" is a lot like the Lost Cause's "states rights": a fig leaf that intentionally tries to distract from the fact that the only speech/right of concern was that of the most repugnant behavior.
Better to just hoof it instead.
