  • People can compartmentalize. He can be completely all over the science and believe it factually as part of medicine while also believing that spouting nonsense that is unscientific is valid if he says so, as he's a doctor. His self interest can override his knowledge, in particular if it feeds his ego, as being a celebrity doctor would.

All doctors and scientists simplify their messaging when dealing with non scientists as a means to help them understand concepts they don't have a grounding in. That simplification is often factually incorrect. It's a slippery slope.

Particularly in this modern world. Our brains in general seek order and certainty, but almost everything is on a spectrum. So when scientist talk in facts and absolutes, it's easy to negate their message with edge cases or precise sticking points that they are ignoring for simplicity. Take vaccines. They have known side effects. They are deemed safe. People can still die. Cars and planes are likewise deemed safe.

  • It's rare for any adaptation to be better than the source material. Usually the best you'd hope for is as good, or nearly as good but more accessible.

  • Haha, I don't. But my kids kind of do. I doubt they are being influenced by any trends as they wouldn't be familiar. Luckily cookie is the second choice. First choice was buttcrack, which has been nixed.

  • I’m getting a puppy this week. The proposed name is cookie. What to do?

  • The last of us had naughty dog on board, and the showrunner had just done the amazing Chernobyl.

Jurassic Park was Spielberg, possibly the greatest blockbuster director of all time.

Jk Rowling was heavily involved with the Harry Potter movies including casting.

Not all adaptiations are bad, but when it's a cash in movie or series, it's often those without involvement of the original writer that struggle.

Being involved doesn't have to be the main writer. For instance game of thrones had george rr martin involved but had different writers. It's when they didn't have source material that it went off the rails.

  • Or they could write a book about their struggle.

  • Well, that's what was hoped for with Bidens term. Yet nothing really happened.

People still operate under the assumption of good faith. Its completely ridiculous to be that naive at this point.

  • There are "no weapons" signs at libraries?

  • Yes, and we should continue to do so. However, lets not pretend that immoral actions by America and Europe don't undermined their position.

  • It's also to say they have principles. It's hard for the USA or Europe to criticize their human rights abuses while continuing to support Israel. It's a way to highlight western hypocrisy while avoiding risk. Remember they still invest into other high risk countries. High risk can lead to high reward.

  • They are starting to lose support and the backtracking shows that. As much as it seems they are getting away with literal murder, they are coming under increasing pressure as more people's eyes are opened.

Keep calling them out, keep pushing. The more we accept it, the more they normalize it. One more log on a trumpster fire burns brighter for a bit but the whole thing goes eventually.

The fact that unified outrage changes their course should tell us all to stop being complacent and despondent. We can change this.

  • Yes, that's what subsidies the oil and gas but it's the external expenses to society that are the biggest subsidy. That's what carbon taxes or carbon trading schemes are designed to address. This, the true cost makes oil and gas uneconomical compared to green energy.

It's like Walmart underpaying their workers, so they are entitled to food aid. The tru cost of living is not reflected in their wages. We all end up subsidizing the company instead of them paying their fair share.

  • Your request that people be more pleasant implies they were being unpleasant. They weren't, unless you're Hegseth. As you said, you're misinterpreting their comment.

    I don't think you know what a non-sequitor is.

At this point I'm dropping out as this is not productive and you're becoming very combative. It's a bit ironic considering your request for politeness.

I agree, I was being critical. However, I was trying to do so in a constructive way. It's obviously not constructive for you.

  • No, the fediverse supports tagging users. Comment threads can be used for a conversation but should not be confused with direct messages, which are generally private. It's a community conversation where anyone can jump in at any point.

It's true in pretty much all forums, federated or not.

  • Just a heads up. These are not messages. They are public forum posts.

I can see how it would be discombobulating to see that appearing as a message in your inbox, but although you are notified, it's not a message to you. It's a notification of comments in a thread or post you follow.

Sure, people have conversations through threads. But, it's still different.

Your first messages conveyed the confusion of discovering it, but blaming the other poster for your response, for a valid comment, while bemoaning user engagement is a bit contradictory.

I see your heart is in the right place, and you're mildly offended, but you too, could consider the context and the impact your posts have.

  • You don't even need to subsidies electric. You just need to tax all carbon and pollution at the actual cost to society.

The only reason petrol is preferred elsewhere is due to the lack of infrastructure. You can get petrol/gas everywhere. Charging your car is less reliable and needs effort to find. While it's not really a problem for most people's driving habits day to day, it's a perceived problem.

As energy prices continue to rise and solar continues to drop, it will become more and more economical to have electric car and solar charging.

  • Surely the increase in visitor spending could fund some public toilets, which is clearly lacking for that volume of people.

  • It does if you inflate the price of the base tier, then add a new lower tier at the old price. With ads.

Or if you have less content and charge more.

Or if you stop making content with creatives having control and instead make it based on producer led content.

Or if you start changing up the cover art of different content and sprinkle it in different categories to give the appearance of more content.

Or if you claim to be about freedom of speech and not judging content based on being offensive or controversial, but then fire workers that you feel are offensive or controversial.

Or if you start buying your competition with the intention of having less competition.

  • Every forced update is 5 minutes of hassle for each login. If you work from multiple PCs, it’s a nightmare.
