  • I've been using GIMP for so long and I don't know how to use Photoshop so all the "weird" things about GIMP is normal for me.

Also feel like if I learn Photoshop, I'll never touch GIMP again. D:

  • I really like SVT. AOM (or whatever the default was for ffmpeg) was terribly slow. Now I have to try out rav1e.

  • Unplug the computer? Got it.

  • Porkbun asks for your ID now so that might not be "privacy-respecting" but their CS is very helpful from my experience.

I have domains in Netim and Spaceship, and I have no problems with either so far.

  • Political campaign ads. Not a product so it might be different. I remember watching one that took advantage of homeless people and it made my stomach hurt.

  • I recommend checking out lowendtalk.com if you're shopping for VPS hosting providers.

  • The mod tools are too basic and barebones. I'd appreciate if we can get:

    • Post approval system for new or low-karma accounts (it can be karma for local communities)
    • Reporting system with multiple options (very hard to implement in the fediverse as everyone has different rules) so that the reports are sent to the proper channels. Admins shouldn't have to deal with community-specific rules (for example, "memes only on mondays").
    • Automoderator (these might already exist? I have not tried them.)

I don't know if I should split this comment into three or not but they're some general suggestions to address the complaint of basic mod tools.

  • I really want to say Gandi but they charge too much now and removed the free mailboxes.

Anyway, I'll vouch for Netim. Their prices are similar to (old) Gandi and they have a mailbox too. I'm looking into Spaceship for some other domains because they're really cheap.

  • OsmAnd~

Makes navigating around easier especially as someone who likes walking.

Edit because somebody mentioned about the lack of description and link of apps:

OsmAnd~ is a FOSS alternative to Google Maps and uses OpenStreetMap for its data. You can download it here.

  • None. YouTube is still the best for uploading anything and being able to monetize it with ads.

Maybe consider selling it as stock footage?

  • Out of curiosity, other than fmhy.ml, lemmy.ml, and lemmygrad.ml, what other Lemmy instances were using .ml domains? Also, how are the latter two still running but fmhy.ml isn't?

edit: This has triggered a chain of comments I wasn't expecting. I'd appreciate it if someone can answer on a technical level. Is the latter two using a different registrar or name server which is why it still works for them?

  • There's a lot of subs like these which I don't want to name. Basically, subs with anti-corpo principles but refuses to leave corpo Reddit. I'm happy for the subs who are still dark even until now (and even more reason to be now that Reddit is deleting older DMs and removing awards/coins).

  • My favorite r/selfhosted comment.
