kinda unrelated but recent nvidia linux drivers are already open source. i’d love to see the older drivers be “open sourced” too because my ancient gpus aren’t supported by open-gpu-kernel-module thing tho

When a single salary could comfortably support a whole family, people had more time
was there really time like that tho? just sounds like rose tinted glasses tbh. maybe because i’m not US based but people here were poor af back then and things got much better these days.

tbh yeah. i don’t use ai but art stuff looks fun and i’d like to make things but i suck at it.

ublock is (mostly) best used as a blacklist filter while numatrix is best as a whitelist filter. you can toggle js, xhr, frame, etc for individual domains and sites with numatrix. similar function isn’t impossible to achieve in ublock (which is why gorhill stopped developing umatrix, the origin of numatrix) but it’s far more intuitive with numatrix. i suggest you just try as it’s fairly easy to understand.

what the fuck

most likely configuration issue on the instance that hosts the image.

i haven’t bought new hardwares for a long time. it’s mostly all older used items, sometimes even straight out of garbage bin.
the newest machine i have is from 2021.

debian. friendly and large community, no weird antifeatures like ubuntu

it’s sort of mixed.
overall i hate how it’s being made, advertised, brainwashing people, used for fake images/propaganda, reducing signal to noise ratio with meaningless slop, environmental concerns etc.
OTOH there’s some genuinely great things (imo) being made because of it. like people making drivers for long obsolete hardwares, reverse engineering proprietary blobs. maybe it isn’t something very advanced technically but it’s still something i find very interesting. most recently i saw someone got iOS 7 running on a HTC HD2 (leo), 17 years after that phone first released.
i still don’t use llms yet other than short testing back a few years ago, but i might start using them soon. i really want to get volte working on my phone, i don’t know how to reverse engineer the vendor’s IMS implementation, and i’ve seen people with not much knowledge get it working on their phones with llm help.
maybe i’m justifying immoral things… idk. something to think about.

try less plugins in firefox. i only use ublock origin and numatrix (this can replace noscript and works better). don’t enable too many filter lists in ublock, there’s pretty severe impact.
or theres the choice of using chromium based instead. somehow they work much smoothly than ff. i still use kiwibrowser but it’s discontinued so can’t recommend it… there’s no ublock but cromite is decent
not sure wdym bluetooth backdoor tho. i personally don’t use BT at all so…

free rockets actually sounds very cool (whether its free as in beer or freedom)

do you have gapps? are there many addons in firefox?
don’t use disk swap. it’s almost never a good choice.
crashing to boot animation sounds very weird. i haven’t experienced it since CM10 (android 4.1.2). perhaps there’s a different issue with that rom?
i think you may have to try another rom, or a lower android version. in my experience android 12 and higher is much heavier/sluggish than 11. i’d recommend downgrading.
the android build system is really shitty. it’s too optimized for OEM’s high spec build servers, us poor plebs can’t run it well… it even needs insane storage space for some reason. for small modifications manual edits work much better
(and btw what device is this?)

lmao that’s funny as hell, fuck github and m$

no i just meant i’m using zram function already available… haven’t improved it or anything. so my comment was kinda offtopic for this thread…
i have two android devices that i use zram on. one is a armv7 msm8974 phone with 2gb ram on android 8.1 (LG G2), the other is an arm64 sdm429 tablet also with 2gb ram on android 11 (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 2019). i frequently run termux and firefox/kiwibrowser together.
btw this Galaxy Tab A i have is one of those devices where the manufacturer decided to include armv7 kernel on a 64bit device. thankfully the bootloader is 64bit capable, and even the stock rom in one specific region is in 64bit, so i’m able to use 64bit in mine.
the android build system is actually not necessary to modify the android kernel. the kernel zImage/Image.gz can be built by simply getting the android toolchain (arm-eabi-4.9 for me) and compiling the kernel thru linux standard process (export ARCH=arm; export CROSS_COMPILE; make defconfig; make) and manually replacing the kernel in boot.img using unpackbootimg and mkbootimg.
that’s a downgrade from m1 pro
never get L or E series, only get T/P/X series
panasonic letsnote (not the toughbook) is actually also quite decent. but it’s hard to get unless you’re in japan

i actually don’t even use microg, there’s no problem at all. you don’t get push messages, and some apps might not run tho i havent encountered any yet. (i don’t run banking, drm, anything like that)

i use zram on a 3.x kernel on my ancient android phone. it helps significantly! modern firefox is unusable without zram.

regarding terminal/ssh on android… isn’t termux the best?
is it? i haven’t seen post quantum cryptography (?) alert when connecting to some machines in openssh until pretty recently, i assumed there’s been steady development in that area
