  • I don't know, the premise is really fucked up if we consider that

    Having sex or forcing the plurb to do something you want is tantamount to removed/coercion of the individual, so Carol is aremoved which I think is really difficult to do for a TV protagonist, especially if the intention was not to make a dark horse TV antihero that Bravo Vince has done over and over again.

    It was kinda excusable for the first time because it seemed like the plurb was manipulating carol at her most vulnerable and isolated but then she decides to threaten killing manousos who could very well have had the cure for undoing the plurb so she could then sexually assault a (previously married) west Asian woman who is very much sick with a disease that strips her of consent and that will kill most of humanity and permanently stagnate it. Manousos calls her out on this but I think he should have called her a "violadora" (R-word) tbh (it would fit with what he views the plurb as a sickness that's taken over people) instead of a corny "girl or the world"

    I think the show writers chickened out on this and then tried to do a corny ass "the team is working together" at the end which rubbed me the wrong way entirely.

    The eco-fascism alarm bells of Pluribus is ringing too close for comfort.

  • She only stops when she realizes that her permanent vacation has a time limit. The whole "asking the plurbed Zosia about her life" gives me white sexpat vibes where they ask about their escorts' lives. Carol is characterized extremely well as a unlikeable chauvinist american that she believes in nothing other than her own gut reactions, but also she's just unlikeable, I hate seeing her do anything.

    His kinda genocidal language is concerning.

    TBH, if there was no way to reverse the plurbin then yeah, finding a way to kill all the plurbs (just yell at them for an hour or two) would prevent them from emitting the signal that would plurb other planets. Bravo Vince didn't really think this one out. The pluribus is bad. They cannot survive. Exterminating the virus is an ethical course of action.

    Seeing pluribus as a subversion not of sci-fi stories but of western zombie apocalypse tv. Which is funny because bravo vince said he tried to make the zombies different but they're not. Most of them are gonna fuckin die because they can't do any farming. If they just took out the HDP part of the show and the BS rule about agriculture then it would actually be more compelling, but no, just white people zombie apocalypse slop.

    Edit: they should have had the end of season stinger be Carol getting plurbed in front of Manousos and him becoming the new protag but rhea seahorn is too valuable we need to pull in the Breaking Saul fans.

  • It's Firefox's way of asking the user if they want client-side decorations or mimic "server-side decorations" (fake word invented by nerds) which basically means should the application decide the title-bar or should the desktop?

    On Windows and MacOS, there is no concept of "server-side decorations" because every app must compile to Windows and Mac specifications so they draw their own title bars that match with the system. There is no such restriction on Freedesktop (the spec used by most desktop distributions) so certain people have just taken that to mean we can just force the desktop to conform to apps rather than the apps conforming to desktop. It's very annoying and all the arguments for it are flimsy and just boil down to applications being poorly made/maintained and wanting to blame others for that.

  • Pluribus is only good because it purposefully lacks that. I think its similar to Breaking bad and better call Saul that the dramatic throughline is not in their premise but in their character conflicts. BrBa is not about a genius who becomes a method kingpin its about toxic masculinity and to what lengths does the american dream push people towards. BCS is not about funny lawyer man outsmarts the big guy, its about self destruction and repression.

    Bravo Vince is doing the same with pluribus, its about challenging the type of person Carol is and the pluribus is the setting which allows for carol to express parts of herself that she presumably can't have done without it. The conflict of the pluribus is what drives the plot forward no doubt (like selling meth in BrBa), but the juice of the show is when our characters grapple with themselves.

    Once you start taking apart the premise of bravo Vince's shows they start to fall apart of how contrived they are and basically that's my response to people treating pluribus like a sci fi show and not a show about loneliness.

    I liked gabans line about high expectations. I feel like we and oda have gotten aware of nepo piece lately and this just serves as a reminder that where nepo piece goes the other way for some characters.

    Harald chucking the sword at jarul is so funny though. "Here have it back" kinda reminds me of Harald when he was a teenager. Maybe the covenant doesnt give IMU full control and that part of that personality is part of Harald. Oda did this with vegapunks satellite where york wanted to be a celestial dragon and that implied that there was a much darker side to vegapunk that he excised from himself and thus couldn't control.

    Break next week is tough but oda said at jump festa he was going to focus on his health so I like hearing that more.
