  • No? JPMorgam Chase wrote a loan, right? Don’t they win no matter what, so long as the company doesn’t go under? They’re getting interest no?

  • I’m not sure what the benefits of unraid are but for better or worse, I’ve been running Linux servers since 2007 or so, so…..

I also used arch now and full time for a few years in the 2010s. I like it, but they put in breaking changes occasionally that I don’t want to have to deal with for a server.

I was on CentOS and switched to Debian because of IBM/RH

  • Hi, so I'm the one that reported you to piefed.social.

    Here's why:

    1. How you percieve "bro" to be used is inconsistent with how it is colloquially used.
    2. I saw a post about it, and couldn't believe it. Surely, there was more offensive content that I did not see. So I made a comment with "bro" in it, and you messaged me and then threatened a ban.
    3. Threatening someone with a ban who uses a word that is not offensive colloquial language because you personally find it offensive is abuse of power.

That's it. That's the whole explanation.

Here's the thing. Just because YOU have personally never used bro in a genuinely positive way doesn't mean it hasn't. I have personally used it positively. I was there for my no familial relation bro at his wedding. Bro had a small wedding with only a best man. So I jumped in to help out with what was essentially groosmen duty because I'm there for my bro.

Secondly, while bro comes from a gendered word "brother", language is constantly evolving. Many people use it as a gender-neutral term for friends they wouldn't have sex with. Others use it as a mark of exasperation. Neither use of which is toxic, baked with malice, or toxic.

The problem really is your banning of the word "bro" because you're a moderator. It's one thing if you get personally offended by the word "bro" and ask people not to use it with you. That's fine, and I respect that view. It's another thing altogether to wield your mod powers and police everyone from using it.

You should have a really big think about it, because you destroyed the community you tried so hard to cultivate by projecting your negative view of "bro" onto others. You're still here talking about other people being the problem, yet you excluded people who had no malicious or toxic intent from joining your "inclusive" community.

Finally, if you have never once heard "bro" used in genuinely positive way, it sounds like you need better bro-models. Some bros are toxic, some bros aren't. You just haven't found the right bros yet.

  • Debian?

  • That wasn’t the question. The question was whether you should trust the number and the answer is no. It could be correct or it could be incorrect. There’s not enough data to determine it.

LLMs work as predictive models. If you ask 10 people to estimate the height of a tree, and 8/10 estimate that it’s 10 ft tall, 2/10 estimate that it’s 8 ft tall, the most likely LLM answer is that it’s 10 ft tall. It doesn’t matter that if you actually go and measure the tree that it’s actually 15 ft tall. The LLM will likely report 8

  • What do you mean by a tank below? For flushing or…?

All the squatty potties I encountered in Asia were plumbed the way a toilet in the US would be plumbed so the poop gets flushed elsewhere.

I hope the ones in China weren’t basically permanent porta potties….

So was the text red or has the text been read?

  • Trump believes in religion in which the deity is Donald John Trump, first of his name. And if he wasn’t the first of his name, he is now.

  • 簡體英文呵呵

  • Blocked cuz of adblocker. Anyone got text?

  • Sorry, I happened upon this from the local feed.

Philosophy has always had the question: "Where is the cut off?" Largely philosophies have agreed that humanre are included when discussing ethics. Are animals included? Are plants included? This is an arbitrary hierarchy that they attempt to address (and do so poorly) in the article.

The article largely argues that as progressives oppose systemtic violence and exploitation [against humans], that this should extend down to animals as well. Yes, the author makes a stand that there is not a need to farm animals for food in this fashion.

Is this correct? I'm not convinced. I think there are nuanaces that need to be explored. Carnivores and ominovores kill other animals for food. If ethics extends down to animals, are cats and dogs and other carnivores immoral? Should we shun them from society and refuse to shelter them? If not, why not?

If the issue is about need, then is it immoral to take that which we do not need? Exploring that reason, then cell phones and computers are not needs and are therefore immoral. If that is not immoral, then are wants moral? If so, why? And also, if wants are moral than why is wanting to eat meat immoral?

And what of arbitrary hierarchies? Philosophy has always had to debate and define hierarchies. How do we know plants do not feel pain? What about the plants that produce smells when cut or torn? If we oppose arbitrary hierarchies, why are we allowed to eat plants? Why do we hold the animal kingdom above single celled organisms, protists, and plants? Is that not an arbitrary hierarchy?

And what of sexual exploitation and bodily autonomy? This brings back the point, do animals have autonomy? Feline reproduction, at least in house cats, is literally rape. The penis is structured so that the female will not be able to get away until impregnated. To my understanding, impregnation is at a rate of 100%. Is this sexual expoitation? What if we neuter and spay our pets? Is that violation of bodily autonomy?

There are definitely more issues with the article, so I'll leave it here.

  • Holding hostages now I see

  • Are you going to save without knowing what changes were made? Bold move.

  • Did that count as a report of the admins on db0 have no control over piefed.social?
